  1. Re:Pretty simple really on How Do You Find New Non-RIAA Music? · · Score: 1

I wish it was like this where I live. We have one 'major' record store here, and the rest are little mall outlets that are 3/4 DVD's now. The problem at this record store is the amount of actual music for sale over the last five years has decreased very quickly. The store is two stories and when I first moved here the entire second floor was music, about four years ago the DVD's moved upstairs and consumed about a third of the space, then it was half, but over the summer now the entire music department has been reduced to less space than they use to give to Imports, as to make room for more home electronics.

The sad thing is I use to love buying music. My friends use to go every Tuesday and buy new albums, now they never have the records I want to buy, they are as bad as those small mall outlets that only have top 40. Because of this my music purchasing is a quarter of what it use to be, even though my disposable income has quadrupled over the same time.

I figure I must somehow have been put on a terrorist watch-list because last year i was 'randomly' searched on three of the four flights that started or ended in the states. I have never been searched here in canada, where I live, or in europe. Just on these US flight. Is that normal? I counted that they randomly search about one on twenty people, so chance of actually being randomly searched that much has to be really low. Not just my person either, but my check in luggage had been searched and nice "for your protection ... department of homeland security" letters put in them. And i'm a white male with no criminal record anywhere. On one of the flights I had to supply hotel receipts for where I had stayed, ski receipts (as i said I had done some skiing) and rail tickets. I mean that can't possibly be normal, can it?

Plus my ISP is clueless.  One of my neighbours had her computer stolen (as well as all her other nice stuff) and I went to the local ISP to ask if they could see if they could find out if her now stolen Cable Modem MAC was online and they said they have no idea where any of the internet goes or how to track any traffic back to where.  All they could tell was that her digital Cable box was in use somewhere on the island (Population 3,000) but no way to see what was going on with the internet.  I asked if their was any access on her account with it, and if they could log it to get an idea who this person way, but the cable company said they had no idea of knowing if internet was used, let alone what people did with it.  All they could do was send a kill throughout their entire network that would only effect that MAC.

Thunderball, which was the fourth Bond film (well fifth if you want to count the TV Casino Royale as the first), was one of the best of the franchise. As far as im concerned the only time the bond series took a real hit in quality was in during films 11 through 14 (Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and A View to a Kill). I would argue as a Bond fan that Licence to Kill (#16) and Die Another Day (#20) were also rubbish, but only because they both catered to the film climate of the time and did not feel like bond films.

I had a Math class in first year were the prof gave the same 4 midterms (and no final) every semester. To make matters worse he posted the midterms answer key on the net. Someone found this out and downloaded them from the past semester. Some people I know didn't even bother memorizing the answers, and brought crib sheets to the tests. Talk about lazy. At least I learned to answer those questions even if I couldn't do anything but the five questions on those tests. It did catch up to me though as I got a C and really struggled through the second year class that was the sequel to that class.

  11. Re:Not a major concern on Computer Science Students Outsource Homework · · Score: 1

Group projects were and still are my least favorite thing to do in university. In first and second year here where I am you could choose your groups so, for at least for me, it was pretty good. But in third year and now in my fourth year the professors all switched to assigning groups.

The reason this turned out so wrong for me was because every single time (I kid you not, its happened 7 out of 8 time, the only exception was was I asked if I could be a team of one) I end up with a group of slackers. To make matters worse, always being the outgoing person in each group, I end up being team leader. We would make arrangements to meet up at 9 am and my first team member shows up at 11, and the last shows up at 2:20. I think that partly I'm to blame because it seems that I've lead some pretty bad groups.

The very worst experience, which caused me to take a two year break between third and fourth year, involved writing almost 80 pages of a 150 page report in two days because my other three group members didn't have their parts done, or even really started at that point. "What do you mean you don't have your final copy done? Well lets work from your draft. No draft, ok what do you have? We need to fill 20-30 pages, this is ten lines on the back of a physics worksheet, plus I think these are the headings that I gave you to research and write about two months ago. Anyone done more than this? No-one, really?" Maybe a but of an exaggeration, one of group members did have 10 pages of good work done, but the other two had less than a page done. Talk about panic attack.

My luggage was checked each time too and a little letter from the TSA telling me that "Your luggage has been searched for your safety as well as that of others ...". Does anyone know how to find out if I have been somehow put on a list to be searched every-time i try to get on a plane? I mean other than fly again and see if it happens.

Wow beats me. My original 400Mhz tibook went through five before its applecare ran out. During the third, fourth and fifth replacements the stores that fixed it advised me to call apple and get it replaced. But each time apple refused. Claiming it had already had been replaced. Which was true, after waiting two months for it to ship it came with half a dozen dead pixels so I had to send it in to get a new screen, and after three months of waiting for it to be repaired they had decided to replace the whole unit. Also since the power connects at the back at a bad angle the cord kept fraying so I went through three of them. It also had problems with the metal cracking around the headphone jack. You just couldn't use the thing. If you tried to use it as a portable opening the lid would break the logic board or crack the case. I worked fine on a desk, but it broke if you tried to use it a a portable.

There are some exceptions to this. I never pre-drink for premiership or champions league soccer while here in Canada. Just something wrong about pre-drinking for sports games that start before noon. You have to wait until kickoff before you can drink ;)

And before M.A.D. people start yelling, please note that I always cab it, even when I have only had a single drink. Not because i'm drunk but out of principle and the fact that once I got a 24 hour suspension because I had a drink with dinner. What a jerk that cop was, I blew under and he wouldn't let me walk a line or any of the stuff you see on tv to see if you are drunk. Just I admitted I was drinking so I was busted. After that I never have taken my chances again.

About a few months ago many of the people in the know posted information they had obtained about the then unannounced SSS. Everything from developers learning that the property had been sold to a company held by the Whitecaps (Local pro soccer team) owner, to talks posters had with local politicians.

Kind of scary to read your posts in the press word for word with the exception of lead in "I would really like to see the stadium have ..." changed with "sources close to the organization have leaked the stadiums will have ..."

To make matter worse the authors of the news articles outright denied that they had took their information from the soccer boards, when they were sent proof that entire paragraphs had been cut and paste. One editor said it was possible that information could have been taken from the posts, but would not admit any wrongdoing or that things were plagiarized.
I sould add the big two papers the Province and the Sun didn't steal anything world for world, but did run articles on the information posted. It was the smaller and more local papers that copied directly.

So while Bon Jovi will 'open' the new stadium they will not be the first big event in the stadium. Unless everything goes to hell and the stadium is late.

Also as to why Bon Jovi will be the first band to open the stadium. They were the last ones to play in the Old Wembley before it was torn down. World is that the opening concert will feature many more bands than Bon Jovi, and currently the Rolling Stones are being courted.
