Development has actually been moving very rapidly in the last few months as E17 reaches maturity. Get-E is a good place to watch for user-related updates. Or, if you're more interested in the developer work, there's Edevelop.

So you can leave the problem where it's at (no good), can put together a solution that works better right now (an improved situation), or you can hope that you'll somehow survive and can find the uber-solution later.

Reminds me of an axiom that I believe I picked up here:
"Good, cheap, soon -- choose two."

Someone posted it on here in a previous Star Wars topic, but it's brilliant enough to repeat. Watching the movies in the order of 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 manages to keep almost all spoilers in tact without ruining continuity. The twins revelation in ROTJ is one of the few to be sacrificed, however, instead the viewer then is left to assume throughout Sith that Luke is the only child in Padme's womb. At the end, when it's revealed that she's carrying twins, you're hit with the fact that Luke and Leia are brother and sister and left to piece that together yourself. Somehow that ordering manages to fix everything Lucas broke about the storyline of the saga with the pre-trilogy.

Another limitation is that humans in the industrialized nations have more or less driven out natural selection.

Strictly speaking, natural selection is still going on (and always will) -- humans are still being selected to best suit the environment. It's just that we've made the environment so forgiving through society that selection for is much more common than selection against.

  25. I agree with Bill STOP THIS VEHICLE on Bill Gates Proclaims US High Schools Obsolete · · Score: 1

As a current High School student, I concur. A story was posted awhile back about how the schooling system essentially evolved as a submissive-working-class production line, and I've found this view to be exceedingly accurate. It's become very apparent to me that the High School grading system has nothing whatsoever to do with actual intelligence and absolutely everything to do with ability to follow directions. Aside from that, I couldn't dream of quantifying how ridiculously unhealthy twelve years of getting up at around six in the morning, being forced to take part in things you don't at all enjoy, averaging four to five hours a night (in the later years, anyway), and not eating when you're hungry is (AND APPARENTLY NOT LEARNING ANYTHING ABOUT SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION EITHER). To boot, 90% or more of what I've learned in the past four years has been learned on my own free time, spending too much time online. The fact is that high school fucking sucks. But everyone who could possibly change it no longer has to put up with it, ergo no longer gives a shit. Good to at least see the idea getting around, anyway.
