Thats all well and good that those who took advantage of the "free" Windows 10 are the "product" for MS to milk.. BUT.. Now that you actually have to *buy* Windows 10, these copies of Windows 10 are like the old versions, either you get it on a new machine or you buy a boxed retail disk or perhaps, for system builders, an OEM copy of it... People who have had to *buy* Windows 10 since the end of July have a seriously valid greivance against MS, and I'd be surprised if some very hungry lawfirm (or group of lawfirms) don't spin up a class action suit against MS for "double-dipping", namely datamining both "free" copies AND purchased copies... I'm sooo glad I gave up using MS products about 6 years ago, after using/supporting said products as a sysadmin for close to 20 years...
Back when I still used windows, pre-2010, I had a scanner (Canon Flatbed LiDE 20) that had worked perfectly under XP, but when I upgraded to 7 and went to 64 bit, no joy with the scanner.. However, since I had an Ubuntu Virtualbox VM on Windows, I'd fire up the VM, connect the scanner to the VM via the Virtualbox device pulldown and voila!! do my scanning in Linux... Bottom Line: devices generally work better in Linux... I feel another "FUCK MICROSOFT" wave coming on.....
And that is exactly the point. Windows 10 has been designed from the ground up as a surveillance platform
As far as I'm concerned, its the first iteration of what George Orwell in 1984 referred to as a "telescreen".. I gave up using MS products when I retired in 2010, and I refer to Windows 10 now as "Windows NSA Edition", or more simply, a CTD (Computer-Transmitted Disease).. I pity the millions who still use it...
You're thinking of Linux... After seeing all of the broken updates, privacy issues, force-feeding Windows 10, whether you wanted it or not, I couldn't be happier I broke the "MS habit" back when I retired in 2010... Geez, I feel sorry for those who *MUST* use Windows, for whatever reason.... Soooo glad its not *me*.....
Since the ONLY phones I'll ever own are Nexus, I'm gonna be REALLY pissed if *they* start doing this... Ease of rooting/no bloatware is what made Nexus phones famous....
One word: Nexus.. Unlocked and no bloatware.. (well, other than the *extra* shit that Google includes that many don't use/want.. All the "Google Play Music/Movies/Games apps that I can't seem to get rid of, even though my Nexus 4 is rooted...) All I want is Gmail, and the Google Play basic store app... Fuck the rest.. Dunno what they did to keep that other crap on even when I'm rooted and use one of the removal apps.... My Nexus 4 may be a bit old, but its on Android 5.1.1 and works perfectly.. Don't need anything newer..
Thats the thing.. The US Constitution does NOT allow civil forfeiture.. The 4th Amendment prohibits that shit, but the US government cares not for what the Constitution says, and the Supreme Court plays right along..
I too, am a retired computer guy, and I also support a fairly large group of retired folks, but I have converted quite a few of these folks over to Linux, namely XUbuntu. When I tell them about the blatant spyware aspects of 10, and the great lengths MS goes to getting 10 on everybodys computer, and MS now veering dangerously into the malware domain with 10, most of these older folks will gladly take the extremely minor "learning curve" of XUbuntu vs the "turd_in_the_punchbowl" Windows 10. On that note, I've had quite a few people who bought new systems from a bigbox store come to me and want to be upgraded to Linux, after hearing about it from others.
The last "O" I paid any significant attention to was the 1972 games in Munich.. The only reason for that was the fact I was in the military, stationed near Munich, and was given a ticket to one of the events. Of course that event was scheduled the day the terrorists decided to do their business, postponing my ticketed event to later, though I did get to see it at the postponed time.. Since then, I have zero interest in those games...
Nooo, its "Windows NSA Edition", the largest and most intrusive CTD* in computing history... Propagated just like an STD, get it whether you want it or not...
Thats true, EXCEPT for those of us who have eschewed continued use of MS products.. I used/supported MS products from 1991 to 2010 as a sysadmin, and when I retired in 2010, I decided I was done with MS products, and migrated all of my home systems to 100% Linux. In case nobody has said it lately.....
FUCK MICROSOFT and its totalitarian OS... Should be called "Windows NSA Edition"
Windows 10..... Better known as "Windows NSA Edition"... or I guess you could also call it a "CTD", a Computer-Transmitted Disease... About 9 months, I had a period where I was curious about Windows10 so I used the Windows 7 OEM product key that came with my Dell laptop to get Windows 10. despite me being MS-free since 2010. I installed it in a "castrated" manner, local acct only, disabled Cortana, and a bunch of other privacy-protecting tweaks.. I ran it on the laptop for about a week, until finally I yearned for the simplicity of Ubuntu, so the hard drive containing Windows 10 got put on the shelf.. Fast forward to yesterday, wanted to try out the latest release of Slackware (where I started my Linux adventure back in 1994), and found I didn't have a spare drive, so with not a care in the world, installed Slackware over Windows 10.... After reading all of the bullshit MS is putting into Windows 10, I can see I did the right thing in wiping the drive vs going to Frys and buying another drive... In case nobody has said it recently.... FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!!
MY "hardware driver requirements" are VERY specific.. Such that NO MS product will EVER touch MY hardware ever again.. I supported/used MS products from 1991 to 2010, at which time I retired.. At that time, all of my home systems were moved to Linux.. and thats where they'll stay...
In my book, something that deliberately goes around a firewall is malware. I don't care what benefit it claims to give, as that has just given another attack vector for the "real" malware.
I'd expect that to be in ANYbody's "book", somebody who is NOT a mindless MS "can_do_no_wrong" fanboi.. I used to use/support Windows during my working career, but now that I'm retired, its Linux 100%... FUCK MS... (you *know* you're thinking it....)
Yeah.. I can see it now.. Its gonna like playing "Whack-a-mole" bypassing all of the malware aspects of Windows NSA Edition.. Do you get the feeling that theres *some* government agency behind this, egging MS on to keep "tightening the screws" on Windows? If you think I'm a conspiracy nut, you are ASLEEP.....
Hey! The NSA has gotta have *something* to fill that giant datacenter they have in Utah.. I strongly suspect MS has been "recruited" to be part of the "data-collection" arm of the NSA.. Which is why I refer to Windows 10 as "Windows NSA Edition", while using my Linux system.....

Its pretty fucking disgusting to us here in the US too.. The US government is totally out of control... May God Help us...

Umm... I just went to Piratebay via Chrome... No problem, easy-peasy... Of course, I should clarify that I'm on Linux, not "Windows NSA Edition"....
In other words, George Orwell's "Telescreens" in 1984.... Ole Georgy Porgy was right on the money, just 32 years early.....
And I wouldn't trust them to NOT "snoop" even if you DO pay the $100/mo... Comcast (and Microsoft) can go FUCK THEMSELVES......

You!!! I LIKE you!! Couldn't have said it better....

Shit... IF I want bash, I'm gonna be using Linux or one of the 'BSDs... FUCK MICROSOFT and the bus they came in on.....
Couldn't happen to a more appropriate company... FUCK MICROSOFT!
Unfortuantly you *KNOW* whoEVER was to produce such a tool would have the shit sued out of them by MS..
