  1. Ubuntu 10.04 here.. on Ask Slashdot: the Best Linux Setup To Transition Windows Users? · · Score: 2

I've moved over 10 users from XP to Ubuntu 10.04, mostly people whose XP install was beyond repair with malware, and who never made or had lost their system recovery disks. I've had zero complaints and of the users converted, I get far less calls for assistance than I do from the others I support who are still on XP or Vista. I'm currently trying out 12.04 on my personal machines, and as far as I'm concerned, Ubuntu has jumped the shark with Unity. I see both Windows and Ubuntu going down this insane "everybody gets a play-skool tablet interface, even on a desktop" road. I'm seriously looking at Mint for future migrations from XP vs Ubuntu, once 10.04LTS gets close to End Of Support...

Follow the money. Selling replacement chargers is an income source. Just look at Dell laptops: they use an industry standard connector with an additional pin inside. The extra pin serves only one purpose: the laptop can tell whether or not the charger is made by Dell. You can buy chargers from other companies, and they will plug into your Dell. The laptop will use the power to run, but will not charge the battery. This behavior serves only one purpose: to guarantee that you buy your replacement from Dell.

ummm... No? I have several Dell D-series Latitudes, that originally came with Dell chargers that have the nasty habit of the DC output cable finally bending enough times that first the shield shows up then a bit later the cable finally breaks. I have a bunch.. of these chargers lying around. I decided to buy a 3rd party unit off eBay, and guess what? it both charges AND runs the laptop at the same time.. Its definitely NOT a Dell-branded one but a "compaitble" one. Was only $9.00 and works just fine, although it has the same problem when you coil the ac cord and dc cord around the brick and then use the rubber strap to secure it.,..

Though I've seen very little anywhere about it, there was a recent DHS "whistleblower" who reported that there was a concocted plan by the administration to "crank up the heat" as it were, to incite rioting, thus making it easier for Mr Soetero to declare martial law. Think about this.. DHS "asks" NYPD to "turn up the heat" with the black community in NYC, such that some kind of "Rodney King" like incident happens, lighting the match.. With careful tending by the media, with its lies and DHS, they cause it to spread to other cities.. Enter Mr Soetero, who says "oooh to protect the american public, I'm reluctantly gonna declare martial law"... of course, that means ANYbody who disagrees with Mr Soetero in a public way (ie: talk radio) will be "disappeared" under the EO's/laws that have convieniently appeared recently... And of course, Mr Soetero and other members of his party no longer have to worry about a repeat of the 2010 elections, as the 2012 elections have been "postponed" (read: cancelled) ... Then America is well and truly FUCKED...
