Hopefully the author pays thing isn't run like the crooked 'we will publish you' sci fi ripoffs out there.
I can see the 'published research' model being misused by the drug companies in that all they have to do is spam the repository with studies saying the cigarettes and cellphones aren't that bad for you, drowning out the studies which say otherwise.
When it gets to the point when your developers start flaming hardware developers in public, don't expect much generosity from those vendors in the future.
Summary of articles:
developer sends a couple of requests to adaptec
nothing much happens
flaming developer types up a rant with keyboard courage
hardware vendor shocked at rudeness of rant. replies saying that firmware needs work.
developer does the blockquote rant, and flails arms in the air: Wah! Wah! Wah! Adapted hates us.
Summary of real life:
Adapted doesn't hate OpenBSD. It takes work to provide a huge technical manual of all your products. And, with firmware changing, the specs for how to interface with that product will change.
The articles paint Adaptec as some sort of bad guy, when that isn't the case.
.. and that there's too much device dependent stuff in it.
When you have a knoppix disk and the 2.6 kernel runs differently on your hardware than the 2.4 kernel then there's a flaw with the design of implementing hardware support in a kernel.
I look forward to a GNU HURD livecd.
Could you imagine a Beowulf Cluster of these?
Why don't they just have 1000 bytes (~8000 or so bits) as encryption keys?
So, even if you don't subscribe to the filtering service, you'll end up paying for some other bible thumper filtering his kid's surfing.
4000 to publish a paper? Hopefully they put it on nice paper.

I like to tell electrical engineers that Ferrites on the data cable do jack squat. Always good for a laugh.
Must be a slow linux day.
Launch all zig!
I didn't see how that was a troll.
.. replaced by a beowulf cluster of nano bio circuits. Any questions?
So.. this doesn't run under WINE then.
I can see the need for keeping ahead of security bugs, but to change for change's sake is just silly.
I assume you've tried running linux with some command parameters thrown at it. linux vga=1 you can google 'knoppix cheatcodes' or the vga codes.
Two thumbs down.
Oh, you're going to get modded down for making fun of they way people can't spell...
-1 for spelling. it's 'control'
Can you say Identity Theft?
I think the mods havent seen Office Space. PC LOAD LETTER? WTF DOES THAT MEAN?
So, what do you do?
I'm an engineer at leading Search Engine Company.
So.. how's your job.
I'm sorry, but I'm not at liberty to discuss that.
Is there any subjects people should study if they want to work at Google?
I cannot confirm nor deny that I work at Google. As for subjects to take, I cannot divulge any technolgy which may or may not be employed in my work.
Do you like your job?
Sorry ma'am, don't ask don't tell.
WTF does that mean?
I thought this was supposed to be a cooler.
'PWNED!!"
