you say that languages like C# or Java do the tough work for you or just refrain you from doing 'dangerous' things (like Java cutting off multiple inheritance), thus reducing your flexibility
of course I can't argue with that - it's so true and believe me I love C++ and often use it for personal project
however I think the problem is that nowadays the complexity of software is always increasing - along with the number of poor developers that manage to get a job (yes it does happen a lot)
these contribute to the fact that something like 80 % of software projects end up in failure (or more depending on your definition of failure)
a lot of programmers are needed out there - and we have to consider the fact that some of them are actually dumb because in 2005 everyone's a programmer - and if we begin to let them handle things such as pointers and multiple inheritance, someone in the company's gonna do things the wrong way
I've seen too many bad programmers to assert that we should choose the complex-but-flexible over the simple-but-limited
I remember the days in the 80s when 2D games began to appear...
people said 1D games would always be better than anything because they focused on gameplay
and the same debate will emerge when 4D games come into place
just wait and see
I agree that the timing is real bad...
as you say, normal people (a group which I don't consider I'm a part of, BTW) don't play portable games in summer, except for those who plan a long trip in the backseat of a car or in a plane for the vacations
but who'd want to pay like 350 $ just for that
also, most portable-fan people I know already bought their Nintendo DS a while ago and are pretty impressed with it
who would want a PSP after playing games with a tactile interface
there's no point in having both a DS and a PSP
the timing was just plain bad
God that's detailed

basicly, all this article says is
"take your screwdriver, find the screws and unscrew them"
it actually changed my life
the video game industry really is like the music industry...
many people I know only listen to underground music because it's generally more deep, more intelligent music
but mainstream music is all about appearances - platinum-emcee fifty cent looks real cool but can anyone say his music is actually enjoyable
doom isn't deep at all...it sucks...
BUT it's got a 10 in appearance
if being a low form of life could make me earn easy money, then I could be a larva for all I care

DO NOT underestimate Iceland people
they are all giant hairy barbarians with 100 % cold resistance
and sometimes they develop software
well, it could be worse
windows + biometrics = !!
