    ...see any resolution using a standard RGB cable... right now it is 1920x1200 non interlaced (wich is 11% more than 1080) and there is no fixed upper limit, so tell me again what do I need HDMI for ?

    ...but it slowly vanished after 1995. We just didn't get anything in return, there always were lot of promises but they never make it to the final product.
    They are not a allmighty superior being wich only wants us to belive in it... they do want our hard earned money and they require us to upgrade our perfectly working hardware (= even more of our hard earned money) just to use the new version wich btw. is not the version they promised because cruicial features just didn't make it in time... and so the belivers are now just slaves, this situation reminds me btw. of the false gods in Stargate.
    I have abandoned the false god in Redmond (and now he has btw. left his church)...
    ...and do worship the great Penguin now.

    ...it is a major strike against Microsofts Vista deployment plan since the only real improvment is DirectX 10 (sorry, but that's the fact, the rest are either eyecandy gimmicks or DRM "features").
    It is on the other hand a very good argument not to look for a Windows alternative so MS will not kill it, it may even make them release a crippled DX10 for Win XP.

    You need ONLY three things:
    1. Admin rights
    2. Free access to the Internet (without a real and tight firewall)
    3. No antivirus
    ...and if you got 1 then 3 doesn't matter... neither does 2, if it is a personal firewall.
    ...and if you do not know why then you're propably pwn3d without even knowing it.

    Hmmm... I installed OpenSuse 10.2 and the first impession was "Dear god, what have they done... those fonts sucks..." it was much worse than my SuSE 9.3 on the same laptop (A31p with 1600x1200 screen) then I changed the font from Arial (why do I have a poor MS font as the default system font ?) to Luxi Sans... and everything is smooth again...

    ...testing for a commercial airliner is anything but "trivial", I've been asked once to make a simple Weight and Balance application for a small airline and while I worked on it I discovered that there is nothing like a standard airliner. These aircraft are highly modular and avionics are fitted according to customer requirements. That means that a 737-400 made for KLM may be nothing like a 737-400 made for SAS. Testing would be a hell because it is not enough to test just one phone but all different phones have to be tested (we are talking about the potential risk of loosing 400 or more lives because of just one phone) because you do not know wich phone your passangers got.
    Another issue is the cellular network... you still need a transponder on the plane... you can't reach the normal network (not at 30,000 feet, wich is usual altitude) and the transponder is costly and got a significant weight, wich is the biggest problem on board... and it consumes power and that equals fuel wich is the second biggest problem.
    The best and cheapest solution for everyone is to regulate the price of the call from aircraft phones.

    "The same goes for home computer builders I imagine." No it doesn't, unless you want to upgrade your OS of course. A homebuilder will just transfer hers/his license to the newbuilt computer and s/he can get a lot more bang for the bucks.

    That would be an oversimplification of the issue... new (ie. real Office 2007) documents are "pure" XML. There are however definitions like "do it as Word v.N did". ...and yes it can be used just as a wrapper around any file format but that is a feature of XML in general and not specific to OOXML aka. EOXML.

    ...that larger screen area makes you more productive, I can't remember where I read it but there have been at least to studies of the subject, one stated a productivity increase of 80% when going from 15" to 19".
    It doesn't however matter how you increase your screen area, two smaller monitors are as good solution as one large (and two small good are better than one lousy large) and you may run two in different resolutions (wich may be the ultimate argument for keeping two monitors).

    I'll guess s/he is referring to the 1st. Microsoft law: "You may not sell a PC without an OS on it."

    There are however some problems in some countries where a naked PC may not be considered a "full working product" when there is no OS on it (because it can't do anything) it is then considered a "spare part" wich creates problems with the warranty (wich may be regulated by law).

    ...used by ADSM for making backups of document level... the bug allowed users to restore documents (from ADSM server) directly from their Notes Client too.
    This bug/feature dissapeared in Domino 5 (and later), when we called IBM (the great mothership of both Lotus and ADSM) we were told that it wasn't a feature but a bug and it has been corrected.

    Well... I think you should talk to that norwegian bank wich was down for a week (11,000 PC's and 1,000+ servers) a couple weeks ago about how secure Windows is... so no, not really "All quiet".
    Vista has not been out for six months (Enterprise relese was in November, commercial release was in January) so I can't really use that info for anything... "We got the most secure system... except... it is not released yet..." geee...
    ...and the fact that the upgrade rate to Vista are somewhere between 30% and 50% of what Microsoft estimated is also helping the statistic.
    I have run NT4 and W2K for years without problems... and without reinstalling. It is possible, you just need to know what you are doing... and how to protect your system. Wait until Joe Sixpack & other lusers start to use Vista and then we will see how invincible it is.
    ...and btw. I do belive Vista is the most secure Windows desktop to date... but that doesn't really say very much does it ?

'cause you wnated some fun tonight.... and it obviously seems that he too wanted some fun too and took a couple of pills himself.

    No, no... it is the other way around... they don't have the time 'cause the need it for fixing all those security issues in an all Windows environment...
    ...they should propably look at the consequncies... f.ex. a Norwegian bank has just been down FOR ALLMOST A WHOLE WEEK... 11.000 PC's and 1.000+ servers got the Win32/Viking.gt (Normann AV) aka. W32/HLLP.Philis.ha (McAfee) worm and they just couldn't clean it. I can't find anything in english about this case, there are two stories about it in the danish Computerworld but they are of course in danish initial story from March 5 follow up on March 8.

    The case is in fact much worse than that... because of MS computers are only a faster version of machines from the early 1990'ies. MS has, due to the influence on hw-makers thru OEM-program, stopped the development of the PC platform.
    MS is responsible for the "I386 compatible" hw monoculture we are seeing now. Both Alpha, Sparc and PowerPC were/are much more advanced solutions with features on chip Intel can't make (Itanic is more advaned too but I consider it a joke).

    ...we do fear "Expertise". The technical ignorance among users, for wich Microsoft is very much responsible for... the "It looks cool and it seems to work" attitude where the part about security is just an irritating detail wich blocks the "Experts" access to cool features.
    I am very lucky and I do have support from our management to say what is and what is not allowed... but many places the worst "Expert" is somone from management.
