Several games are insisting on running as admin without ANY real need except programmers lazyness. Several applications has been seen to do the same (Adobe has f.x. been a real pita some years ago). The real blame for this should however be placed hos Microsoft who accepted that software didn't use Windows security model when it got the "Designed for Windows" mark.

You can buy / build a low power system with -48V DC PSU and drive it on normal car batteries for extended time... you could even charge them by a simple, cheap generator. The weak point of your idea are the disk system... you could of course try with an external disk, PCMCIA/CardBUS SCSI or FireWire 800 adapters are available, but then you've got problems with power to the disk system. I think the real question is how much diskspace is required and how intensive is the usage (of the disk), if you don't have heavy load on the disk a laptop is good enough. Keep them btw. away from dust...

Bob sends file, job done. is what is intended (by the genius developer ?)... the reality is that either Bob's or Jim's corporate proxy or firewall (depending on how the transfer is implemented) denies the transfer... and they must send the file the usual way (either by email or ftp). Corporate IT-depts do not like file transfers that bypasses the security policy. Those corporations that allows it do have secure chat servers and file transfers are only allowed thru these.

So... you're one of those poor bastards paying more & getting less i guess... If you want a 16:9 screen to appere as large as a 15" 4:3 screen it must be at least 17". Crank starting a car is btw. a real good way to get it running with a flat battery in the middle of nowhere.

With SuSE 9.1 and 9.3 on IBM ThinkPad A31p (get a "p", they got high resolution displays, my have a 15" 1600x1200 and A31p is still available some places). I also successfully installed SuSE 9.3 on my wifes HP Pavilion ZV600 (AMD Athlon 64), but I didn't check the WiFi. None of these are however lightweight... but I do not need a small laptop. I've seen Ubuntu on IBM ThinkPad X and R run without problems and tried SuSE 9.3 on a ThinkPad 390X (600 MHz).
"Thanks to the DRM subsystem Apple is now forced to close access to the source of OS X for the Intel platform" instead of "Thanks to pirates, or rather the fear of them, the Intel edition of Apple's OS X is now a proprietary operating system." ? Why else should they close only the Intel version ?
"End users HATE Lotus Notes." Never met one of those... and those Admin's and Developers I've met just love Notes... People do like apps. that just work... and Notes is one of these applications.
Maybe because IBM do have an excellent office suite ? Just wait, soon we will see an announcement like "IBM adopts ODF in the next version of Lotus SmartSuite"
of ClamAV to Mac OS X (10.2, 10.3, 10.4). It is called clamXav. It does have on access scanning and a GUI. I use it on my PowerBook, it is quite easy to install, configure and use.
...Does firefox allow me to easily develop integration points with other well established packages(MS Office among many others)... I will turn this argument inside out and say : IE and MS prevents easy development of platform independent solutions based on standards.
Just like the previous "reason" to use Firefox, you dorks actually think you can tell someone "Hey...you don't like chocolate cake, you like white cake!" Well, YES we belive we can (No, I am not a part of the "Explorer Destroyer" project)... MS has been telling us things like that for the past decade or more so why shouldn't we be able to say it ?
No, and a developer who needs and uses the shortcuts provided by Microsoft are no real developer... he is a code monkey... a REAL developer vould provide a solution that would be platform independent and compliant to standards.

I really don't care if you use Firefox, Opera or Safari... I wil however not allow you to use Inetrnet Explorer.

As far as I remember from my MCSE back in the NT4 days : a BSOD happens several instructions before the actual crash to prevent the real crash, this is done to protect data integrity.
..2004...2005...2006... Last BSOD seen on Win XP Pro SP2 today... it was on a preinstalled DELL... Sorry dude... BSODs are still beeing seen by millions of people daily. Oh and btw. if Microsofts BSOD was just a little more informative then we

Color may be black...
There are several real good cases out there... but they are usually industry grade (= with a real nice high price tag).

I prefere a good large case... if it is too heavy I'll mount some wheels on it... Just think uVAX II in a BA123...
