Well... Yes ! There is one : Apple... and you can even run Windows on them. You may also find something in Japan... but they usually only make the really good stuff for the local market.

This comment is not ment as an offence nor as a joke...
...You bought an IBM. If it sounds silly, it is... but it is also true. If IBM tomorrow stared to manufacture laptops based on the G5 or Cell people would buy them just because of those 3 letters.
--
I don't do Windows.
I just love Lotus Notes... and hate IBM for not porting the Notes client to Linux (and for not porting Admin & Developer to Mac OS X)... ...and YES I do know that Notes runs fine under WINE.
--
Lotus Notes is like a woman... you either love it or hate it... and sometimes both at the same time...
Just FYI : This is NOT a good place to say that you didn't know about that file... this file has been there for over a decade, together with SERVICES, NETWORKS and the MS specifc LMHOSTS. HOSTS, SERVICES and NETWORKS exist in all TCP/IP implementations (and I've seen quite a lot of them).
--
My first PC used the then brand new MS-DOS 2.11, so now you got a hint how old I am...
"I'm sure he minimized his windows so everyone could see he was running WindowsXP." I use XP background on my SuSE just to keep my boss happy... I'm sure Bill is doing the same to keep Steve happy...
Sie bist out of order mein herr... to compare Mercedes to Alienware is crazy. A Mercedes may be the last car you ever need to buy, it will last forever. You will not find anything like that in the world of computers... maybe some older IBM or Digital stuff...
...and get axed by the CEO 'cause he can't chat with his mistress ?
--
I totally agree with parent... but my CEO got a mistress in every larger city in Europe.
I do believe that if some enterprising group/company decided to make Linux/OOo look and feel 95%+ like Windows, getting organizations to switch would be a no-brainer. So... You are telling us that there has not been any significant difference between NT4 and W2K or W2K and WXP ? The difference, as I see it, is so big that one could as well have changed to Linux or Mac OS X.
--
DRM ? I think I can Manage my Digital Rights myself... without the help of Intel, Microsoft, Apple and any other commercial organization.
Eh ? Windows has an _excellent_ record of being usable on older hardware. Typically if it's 5 years old or newer, it'll run the latest version of Windows either out of the box or with some very minor tweaks/upgrades. I couldn't agree more... You can't in fact install Windows on the newest hardware... "There are no suitable harddrive found in your PC"... oh shit... and there are no floppy drive so you can't install the drivers...
Yes, Windows is ONLY for older PC's but it just runs so damn slow on them...
I do btw. have an excellent system you may prove it on... it runs NT4... and Linux... and NetBSD... it just seems quite impossible to install 2000 on it... I wonder if it has something to do with the CPU used... it is an DEC Alpha...
--
"Wintel" the world leading platform ? I think NOT, everyone else got 64-bit 15 (or is it 20) years ago...
A server that can't survive this is like a baby left outside in the winter in Alaska... it shouldn't be there in the first place.

Beeing paranoid is a part of the job...
"Consumers don't purchase something they don't want or need." "Consumers" do not know what they want, they buy what you tell them to buy. That is the reason they are called "consumers" instead of "customers".
"Cool features that Windows doesn't have?" A cool feature is f.ex. "I don't need to be scared of all the viruses!", another may be "I don't need to reboot all the time!" and I am still hearing this one : "The best Word Processor I ever had was WordPerfect 5.1 for Dos, just a shame it can't run any longer"
...and what "Cool features" does Windows have ?
"the Press Start to shutdown"-feature ?
"the automatic hide my icons"-feature ?
"the new look in every version"-feature ? (wich btw. is B.G. main reason for NOT change to Linux)
"the my app. just stopped responding"-feature ? (aka. "pls. reboot to fix"-support question)
"the my USB device just uninstalled itself"-feature ? (aka. "I've turned my device off and now it does not work"-support question)
"the memory stick interfere with my phone"-feature ? (this is a brand new one)
"the Microsoft know when to release a patch"-feature ? (aka. "you only need to patch once-a-month" feature)
Just ask anybody if they would accept a car, refridgerator, VCR or a TV wich would work as stable as a normal Windows PC does... they will just look at you and answer: "You are kidding, aren't you!".
Microsoft Windows has created an acceptance of unstable, ureliable and untrusthworthy computers among normal people (aka. consumers). ...and I just have one thing to say to the "No-driver"-people (and it is the exactly the same thing Microsoft is saying): Buy supported hardware.
--
No, I do not have Windows on any of my own computers...
It does not hurt... but Apple will use it commercially and get paid for it so they should take it as it is or buy a license for NTFS from Microsoft.

This is an emulated sig.
Then you maybe can explain to me... how Compaq could sell a PC with a Windows XP logo WITHOUT any display adapter ? As far as I know a PC will not boot without some kind of display adapter and Windows can not run without a display adapter. The Designed for Windows logo is as worthless as Windows itself. Have you btw. tried to install XP on a SATA only PC ? "No harddrive found, setup can not continue.", this was a XP-logo'ed machine too...

Tis sig. is not a sig...
So what if M$FT Windows and M$FT Office ARE the right tools for the job? [Gasp! Horrors!! Oh the Humanity!!!] Could you pls, show us just one MS app. wich is the best in its class ?
You probably know but it seems that other may need a clarification... Rotary engine is a very bad (imho) name for a Wankel engine. A 2000 ccm 3 chamber (with 3 rotating "pistons") Wankel engine (like the one in Mazda RX-7) is physically smaller and lighter than a 1000 ccm, 4 cylinder engine.
...it happened for me too... I asked them if I should take our brand new EVA 8000 to the junkyard 'cause HP are now using Linux as the engine in the SAN switches. They instantly shut up and have been quiet since...

1. # The cartoons were published in September and are only now gathering a reaction. While it's entirely possible that it took this long for those cartoons to hit the world--it seems rather unlikely given the speed at which news travels today.
I can clarify this issue... the reason for this is that som immams from Århus (Denmarks 2nd. largest city) took those pictures and some other pictures (some was shown on the BBC) to Egypt and Saudi Arabia to "discuss" them and get help from the arab nations, because Jyllands Posten didn't want to give them an apology.
The result was obvious... since arab governments are firmly based on the religion they can't do anything else than "defend" Islam... or lose the power... and those immams should have been very aware of this... they are all arabs who very well know how Islam and most arab goverments work together,
You should very well know that those quotes are taken out of context,,, You use them here in the same way fundamentalist Muslims are using them.
Islam share the old testament with the christians (and the jews)... the ten commandments for Muslims may be seen here at Wikipedia
Commandment 7: Thou shall not kill.
Qur'anic Equivalent: "....anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people." (5:32)
The usual context of those quotes is when defending Islam or any of Islam's holy places you may and should use any needed force including killing the enemy.
We must remember that when the Koran was written, european chrisians where all over the place defending (or conquering ?) christian holy places and searching for the Holy Grail...
--
I do not defend anyone... I defend everyones right to belive in whatever they want.
...one computer is a Apple PowerBook running Mac OS X and the other is a IBM ThinkPad running SuSE Linux... I do however expect to make a lot of money the next 3 - 5 days.:-D

What was the goal of DARPA net ? share information between different platforms.
...no one are willing to take the responsibility for any change... it is a virus wich have infected IT-depts., it came from management or/and accounting.
IT-depts. in the financial sector (where I work, outside US) have probably the biggest problem with this, We can't do anything because our big leader (the IT-boss) need/want to have his back clear.
