  1. Norton Joke on Tricking Vista's UAC To Hide Malware · · Score: 0

He's waiting for Norton Desktop to load.

  2. The Pirates will still succeed on Software Deletes Files to Defend Against Piracy · · Score: 2, Insightful

With cracked executables and loaders, this protection still won't do really anything. All it does is tell the pirates, "Hey! Don't use serialz or keygens. Crack & Patch me instead!". I remember all sorts of brilliant protection schemes that were made to prevent things like this cracked in no more than a week. If there is a demand, it shall be cracked.

To me, it seems that this protection scheme will only scare away the casual pirate and not the hardcore ones.

Of course it's ridiculous. Why do the Japanese get a price drop and the rest of the world has to pay $600(or similiar in different currencies)? It seems like Sony is desparate to get marketshare and has carelessly discarded the rest of the consumer base.

  6. Of course... on Five Men Arrested in LexisNexis Data Theft · · Score: 1

In a book I read when I was younger, if you wipe your finger along a big line of ants they lose the scent and get lost. I've done that alot and they do get losr abd run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

  9. Re:KOTOR on Final Fantasy vs. Oblivion · · Score: 1

And nothing was linear in KotOR?

KotOR is extremely linear with a such a low amount of replay value.
Really, which is better, a game with no replay value that collects dust after you beat it, or a game that's open-ended and has a construction set.

I still liked it for the story though.

  12. Forget AOL E-mail. Go Bluebottle! on AOL to Charge Senders for Incoming Email · · Score: 1

I have to say that Bluebottle is the best free email service ever. It has better spam control than AOL. Only allowed senders can send you mail; anything by anyone else resides in the pending box.

Anyway this doesn't make much sense(TFA), then again, who uses AOL?

Unfortunately, Boycotting really doesn't work anymore unless you convince everyone you know that Sony's bad, you also have to make them care because many people don't give a flip about DRM(sad is it not?), and the boycotting shows results.

The uneducated people will buy it, educated people won't. Result? Sony sees no real profit difference so they keep making crap.

Summary: Companies ignore boycotting unless they see a huge hit in sales.

I mean you can tell they've used OSS code(mainly their apps) by just using their programs. Some dude sitting at his computer probably noticed the similiarity between SCO stuff and Linux.

But the tite says 'May' so it might not have any code. Yet it probably does because you know how those proprietory people steal stuff *coughMicrosoftcough* so they can increase their audience.

Also, it seems this time it isn't "SCO says Linux contains their proprietory code.",but "SCO may have Linux code."
