    In a way, it hasn't taken this long.

    Parents have been naming their kids after occupations throughout the '90s. Where I live, kids are named Hunter or Taylor or Baker. I even know a couple who named their kids Cooke and Plumber.

    Cue the "my name's Carpenter, you insensitive clod!" comments.

    I have both a Linux computer and a Windows computer on my desk

    I have both Windows and Linux, but I have them on the same computer. Use a tool like GRUB or LILO for a dual boot.

    I just saw an episide that explains beautifully why Klingons looked different

    It also hints at Section 31. These sorts of links with the Trek future that we HAVE seen (not all the guy from the 32nd century stuff, I'm glad Archer told him to leave Enterprise alone) make the show good.

    Perhaps Enterprise should move to PBS. There, executives aren't as obsessed with making more millions and can concentrate more on quality television. Also, the only commercials you would have to sit through are during Pledge Week.

    This is kind of unrelated, but I think nobody here has said it yet.

    The seven base units can be divided into smaller and smaller parts - a tenth of a meter, half a Kelvin, a zillionth of a second, etc. You can't do this with a byte, it just wouldn't work. Sure, you can have kilobytes and megabytes, but a millibyte?

    As for the inconsistency with base-10 and base-2 units, I once read somewhere that they defined a new set of prefixes for the binary units, so a kilobyte would equal 1000 bytes while a "kibi"byte would be 1024.
