    Does it occur to you people that the very existence of separate laptop and tablet markets means there's different use cases?

    I can put together a gaming rig in my sleep, and have designed computing systems that have gone into space, and yet I have my little iPad for relaxing at home after work and I just want to watch a video or get some news. Why is that such an offensive and horrible thing to some folks?

    Walls? It's loaded with ripped DVDs and torrented stuff.

    As for MS, I was learning to code both OSes back in those days, and there were so many data structures in Windows that were identical to those in Mac OS, and I mean down to the individual variable spellings. It was pretty sad.

    Why? Everyone repeats this mantra like robots. There's plenty of cheap third party cables for the existing connector, there will be for the new one. Anyone sitting around fretting over this has way too much free time.

    Unless you sat in on the design reviews and tradeoff meetings, you have no idea what led to the decision. Off the shelf versus custom is a very common tradespace in engineering, and off the shelf is not the automatic slam dunk people outside hardware engineering think it is.
