Is there a device anywhere that allows native playing of other formats? i.e. a device that you can upload different codecs to depending on your music library?

    Yes. It's called a "laptop."

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    $159 isn't too bad. There's also:

    I just built this one:

to do the same thing. The ramsey is cool, except for the BA1404 stereo encoder, which sucks. The mpx96 has a discrete encoder. Sounds effin great. Also, dckits has a pretty good PLL with a 2035 based encoder. Not bad.

My kit puts out about 100mW, which is enough to capture over strong stations for a few blocks.

  9. What is the point? on MPEG-4 Hardware Decoder For $99 · · Score: 1

MPEG-4 was designed for software decode. If you want better quality, you should be using MPEG-2. My 1700xp drops frames every so often with MPEG-2, but that's why I have a hardware decoder. It makes no sense to decode MPEG-4 in hardware, unless you're trying to get a piss-poor system to render divx.

By the way, is there any sort of organized effort to tell metallica (and dre - no chronic for you, joneser!) what assholes they are? I'll start: Fuck you, metallica .
