The web already has four "major" browsers firefox, IE, safari and opera. Do we really need a new browser?
Most of these browsers have a history and evolution associated with them, which prevents adding cool new features ( e.g. each tab as a separate process ) is not possible without a major code rewrite/redesign
Moreover, do we really need yet another partial implementation of the web standards?
I for one, do not want to code and test for another browser.
They are using WebKit, so it's not adding to the confusion
Not to mention that by using google's browser, you will give them unadulterated access to your every movement on the web.
It is open source, so the possibility of them adding any sort of google specific tracking is close to zero ( or else it would get forked ).
... my beauty"
- Bernard Shaw to a woman who wrote to him that she wanted to have children with him - "think of the child with your brains and my beauty."
I dont think the popularity of the open business model should be attributed to philanthropy. It is mostly being used by small companies to build a customer base ( which would be difficult otherwise due to presence of 'big' players ). So, in a way these are 'disruptive' technologies.
I am not sure if the watermarking will survive a re-encoding to a different codec. ( The new codec might use normalization etc. to compress audio content ).
"People are faced with too many options, in this case 48 songs. Since you can't listen to all of them, a natural shortcut is to listen to what other people are listening to" basically summarizes the article.
I think the result is pretty obvious. The same is true for almost all other social networks. Take Slashdot Comments for example - higher rated comments are read more often. This does not imply that "crap" content can become popular - since most social networks have a "feedback" mechanism - which can be as simple as a user rating down the "crap" song. So if a crap song becomes popular initially, its popularity is controlled by sufficient number of "rate-downs".
"Every time I'm trying to be funny, Slashdot mods give me a +5, INTERESTING or INSIGHTFUL. Every time I'm trying to be insightful or interesting, they give me a +5, FUNNY."
Now this is tricky.... If you mod it FUNNY it becomes "INTERESTING" and if you mod it "INTERESTING" it becomes FUNNY.....
For me THe Matrix is not just about the special effects and the action... It is more about the concepts it deals with like existence of virtual worlds etc... simply put... the movie makes you think and deserves to be in the top 100 list
I understand that having different passwords for various logins is essential for security reasons ( otherwise.. if you have same password for all logins... you are as safe as the least safe system !!!)... This is a small trick i use... my passwords are made up of 2 parts... first part is a some text with special characters common to all my passwords and second part is dependent on where i login... fr eg. if my common part is 'foo' then my slashdot password would be 'foo/.' or 'fooslash' and my yahoo password would be 'fooy!' or 'fooyahoo' and so on.... This has several advantages... 1) easy to remember since you only have to remember the common part ( its like having a single paswword!) , 2) password is different for different logins so its secure... hope it helps.... ( btw my slashdot password is NOT 'foo/.';)
the number of states the generator can be in is finite and we do have an infinity of world events... so we have established that there cannot be a one to one correspondance between the states of the generator and future.... which implies that even if we can "predict" an event of world importance is to occour, we will never be able to pin point what event... which bring us to square one and tells us "future is random" which is in agreement with chaos theory....
