Actually that means that thieves have to steal two objects (that NFC thing added to your phone) instead of one (your phone alone). Harder for thieves maybe, but the harder it becomes for them, the more violent towards you they can become. I don't think it's a very wise idea...
*CAN* work, everything is designed to break after a given period of time nowadays and nothing is repaired anymore. Ever heard of planned obsolescence? Of course it won't change anything if you're no more covered by your warranty, but what if you are still covered?
The problem is that Google *owns* you. We may think that what they do is free so it's very cool for us (note: on a technology point of view it's very nice). Anyway, I don't teach you anything, their business model is to know everything about us for advertising purpose (so is Facebook's). And glasses that take pictures of everything we are doing and people around us is very interesting for them, to say the least. It's *way* better than the Google car they used to create Street View. So if you deliberately choose not to wear glasses for the very reason I said above, it's mostly useless because you're already seen by so many other people around you. Just my 2 cents
Do you find that normal that you have to install a third party start menu if you want one ? Microsoft doesn't even provide a way to install one as an option. Win 8 + Official Start menu = Official Win 7 fine Third Party Start menu = maybe bad Win 8 - Official Start menu = crap Win 8 - Official Start menu + Third party Start menu = Why the hell would I want an inferior product ?
I suppose it's a stupid question but is there a chance such a hack exist for the Nexus 7 tablet ? Is Nexus 7 a cheaper version of another tablet which would use LTE ?
That's exactly what I said dear AC, even if I'm an Android fanboy. I know what Google is. I said: If G+ was bigger, it would be a "Facebook 2.0". What I like in Google is that they often release source code to allow people create their community versions of Android, rooting is explained in the manual, (i.e. you don't have to wait for a hacker to decrypt the security of the mobile phone you're supposed to OWN and not to license). Google often contributes in Linux kernel, of course it's for their own interest, but they could also keep their work for themselves.
Hell no but the number of iPhone 5 that sold the first day needed to have been physically built already (I know not all people were satisfied anyway). Google couldn't make such a bet stayed careful, and didn't surf on the iHype. So comparatively it's a very good score yes. And also here it's out of stock with a lot of preorders...
It is, it's the reference Android model when there is a new (major) Android version. But now many other manufacturers allow their phones to be rooted (e.g. HTC, Sony) given they know you are doing so. For HTC phones, an easy hack is Revolutionary (http://www.revolutionary.io). This is tanks to revolutionary that HTC allowed their devices to be rooted "legally". Sony allows to root their phones if you subscribe to their developer program too.

city.washington.dc.us -- city.toronto.or.ca don't we already have * ENOUGH * of those names ?
The role of of the comments is to stimulate debates. There are no debates without people for and against a concept.

Nothing like a good troll to read in the afternoon. I love reading Slashdot at -1 :)
Sigh...
Are you working for Nokia ?

The company that develops your product might decide to drop its support and you're screwed.
I know what too big to fail means. I mean if you bail out Google Facebook or Apple, chances are a new "dot-com bubble" crisis could happen.
Summary says: Apple, Google and Facebook "areN'T too big too fail". Shouldn't it it say "are too big to fail" ? Makes more sense IMHO...
I know you were kidding but installing java plugin under ubuntu is just a matter of apt-get install icedtea-7-plugin ;-)
If you have problems with your network, contact your company's IT team by email. :)
(ok stupid joke I know, couldn't resist

I was talking of the the Nexus 7 3G HSPA+ edition ...

C'mon if G+ had more users do you really believe they wouldn't behave this way ?

The news is that it sold out very quickly, and Android really starts to have the iEffect. :-(.
And the catch is that I couldn't get my Nexus 7 3G

This shows that you should really have bought a Android powered tablet ;-)
