I've recently set up DVD Decrypter on linux with wine. The latest version of Wine *seems* to run DVD Decrypter flawlessly. Anywy there are other (linux native) DVD ripping solutions. Have a look at DVD::Rip.

For me the problem is that I can't find an alternative to my DVD to DVD-R method. I'm using CCE (probably the best MPEG-2 encoder) and DVD-Maestro to make DVD compliant streams. Any alternative suggestion would be welcome ;)

I don't know why parent was modded down because he's right. Firefox silently downloads updates, it only prompts you if you want to install them when they are downloaded. IMHO Firefox should only check if updates are available then display something like

[ ] Don't check for updates in the future

Whether it's firefox or not does not matter to me, I don't like new versions to be installed "on my back". I'm using Debian Sid so I don't have this kind of problem (ff updates are installed with apt IF I WANT TO), but my parents who are using Windows are pissed of those update prompts, and I understand them. The result is that they will *never* update their software.

Currently I'm not interested in the kernel driver. It's a lost case for over a decade. Full read-write could be done in user space pretty fast and I can't see drawbacks, only benefits:

    - NTFS is huge and complex, not for the kernel. Crash in kernel (hw error, corrupt ntfs, etc) and game is over. Crash in user space then just restart the service.
    - kernel has a lot of limitations, restrictions which are all gone.
    - fedora/redhat users have never ending hassles with installing the driver. Instead they could install ntfs-3g once and forget the issue forever.

Even if this post is a troll, I'll answer anyway. When I was younger, I managed to download a (warezed) version of psyq, the developpement kit for the Sony Playstation 1. Using this program, I wrote a PSX version of "the snake game", the game you could find on Nokia 3210 cellphones. I was pretty sure, none of my (real life) friends would care of that homebrew game, so I never bothered showing them. Anyway, even if almost no one that owned a PSX was likely to care of such things ("yeah the snake game running on a playstation, jesus it's a playstation, not an Atari 2600 you know ..."), it was fun to do and very instructing about the inner workings of the playstation.

"Seems like alot of work for no gain."

When you do something like that, the gain is mainly personal. It's a bit like gardening : personaly I wouldn't want to waste time to put seeds of vegetables in earth, expecting to get some crop. But some people like that so what ?

The most important thing is not *how* it has been proven (don't get me wrong, of course the way it has been proven is important, if it wasn't anybody could prove anything ...) but that is HAS been proven. So now any mathematician can use this theorem to prove further results.
