Does the first ammendment give you the right to sell? I think that is what censorship..
In fact look at our public libraries. We recently passed a law requiring them to censor their nets. How are they required to do this? If they don't, they lose their government funding. A public library losing government funding because they won't censor themselves is the most ironic thing I have seen to date in this "free" country.
Why do people still think we fight for our freedom? We're giving it up every day we march and chant the same tired old rhetoric.
They don't even need this technology to do that. Time Domain has been working with wifi technology that will do the same sort of thing, looking through walls to create a 3D model of the room and all objects inside it. This is meant to be used by law enforcement if it becomes legal.

I have lost faith in a 3 branches of the government. The only thing shielding us from all out corporate control is our judgicial system. Holy Shit! He had "thoughts" of killing himself and committing acts of terrorism. Does that make him a terrorist? Or have the thought police not been given their authority just yet?
You saw the weapon of mass destruction. Or the piece of the filter that makes the explosives for the weapon on CNN yesterday. So don't go on saying there's no WMDs. Sure there are, it'll just take a few months for our CIA to plant them, er I mean dig them up.;)
It doesn't matter. People won't learn. They'll just go on believe whatever CNN reports as fact. Just like they'll go on believe in their religion. Because if they can't, then their whole world comes crashing down around them because its all a lie and they know it.
What am I going to do about it? I'm going to go on lying 'til it makes me rich like everybody else.
Linux is the most compatible and fastest OS ever build. Nothing compares to its features, scalability, application availability, stability or security. I don't know what I meant, I think I was high when I wrote that.
I still don't understand exactly what goes on at that level yet. But I think its more intense than simply predicting trends, but actually manipulating, creating and setting new direction or controlling and blocking natural movement.
For some strange reason I think our economy and media can be manipulated to affect our environment in subtle ways, but eventually changing the overall tone of both our external environment and its reflection on our psyche. I believe somehow this can be manipulated to such an extent that it can be predicted and used as a tool economically.
Hmmm, that doesn't make much sense. I guess I think of being greedy as being corrupt. I think business should operate to perform a service or make a product, not to make money. So whatever. Nevermind. I got some reading I need to do. Any suggestions?
I'm beginning to understand how Richard Stallman feels when he has to reexplain himself to each new group of people he meets. Over and over again, repeating why GNU's not UNIX and why GNU's not OSS and why most commercial licensing sucks and why patents suck and why people should avoid monopolies like Microsoft.
If I were him I'd probably kill myself because I'd think the world was just too ignorant to "get it". But lucky for us he has more willpower than your average boarderline personality disorder. I mean could you imagine reading the web and seeing all the negative comments uninformed ignorant people write about you on a daily basis? I can.
No corporation or anything run by money is free of corruption. The only thing free of corruption is volunteer organizations like OSS. And even then you still have to be sceptical. But I have not seen anything IBM has done recently to make me fear their amount of power. They aren't attempting to buy media corporations or manipulate consumer's opinions like both Microsoft and AOLTW.
I think this all relates to that concept of how power corrupts. Today money is power. money==power! So if you have a lot of money immediately we are worried that you will use your power in a corrupt manner, such as Microsoft and SCO. SCO doesn't even have money, all they have is patents. But its all the same thing. Power. And power corrupts.
IBM is a rare exception of an extremely powerful entity that has very little corruption. Perhaps they learned from their past. But since the forces governing these bodies are ever changing groups of execs that get their jobs or get promoted half the time because of job title and knowing the right people instead of technical merit alone. That's how its easily for a powerful organization like the US to become corrupt. You elect a president and he brings all his ol' exec buddies over to throw a 4 year party at your expense. And there's nothing you can do about it once they have that power except wait it out and STOP GIVING THEM MONEY!!!
Its not just the RIAA, its the MPAA and Big Oil and virtually any large corporation. They all seem to act like Microsoft when they get their way and SCO when they don't.

Computers like that are simply too powerful to put in the hands of anyone who can afford $250.
Well, I teach computers a bit and what I try to do is find something entertaining to reward the student, like with Linux you can show use applications that play music or games as a tool to teach how Linux works. If you could do something similar around English, perhaps using the computer to search for information to help with composition or literature, or using the thesaurus and dictionary in a word processor might be a beginning. I think there may be some clever ways to teach people involving mutlimedia video, audio, computers and various types of software including games and network/P2P apps that improve communication, collaboration, etc. Learning isn't necessarily an individual experience, sometimes we learn by watching our peers perform the same tasks. Sometimes we learn only by doing it ourselves. I don't know, but I think if we're creative we can learn more, faster.
Perhaps one day we will discover the true art of education and learn how to produce some sort of media that could teach anything to anyone extremely efficiently and prepare a willing brain to recieve any amount of knowledge for any topic and retain it in a very short amount of time. Perhaps not. But it might be fun to experiment.

At least I still have a few braincells left. I'll be useful until at least the second generation of robots come out because I can program them. But when they can program eachother even I'll be out of a job... I love The Matrix:)
That doesn't mean that copyright is a good thing either. The funny thing is, as I sit here smoking my J, I'm reading and writing this on software I downloaded off the internet for free. And you know what? It didn't take some big corporation and millions of dollars to write this software either. It only took a handful of dedicated people.
Much like the internet. It was built not by one government but by the efforts of millions of people working together to ensure that a packet of data can travel from one end to the other without paying tolls or being blocked along the way.
Its amazing we have the internet in its current form today when we insist on being so die-hard capitalist about even the little things that don't really matter. But I guess it'll take something like the GPL and a bunch of stubborn geeks to bring about evolution on a social scale. Markets must crash, economists and tired old assumptions must be proven wrong, and then maybe, possibly we'll get a little cooperation.
But I won't count on it.
Copyrights, trademarks and patents are very harmful things in the hands of capitalists. Just look at Microsoft. Just look at SCO. Just look at IBM. Look at how we use these things? Is that what you call progress? GNU is what I call progress. The GPL is a perfect algorithm for maintaining control and avoiding economic interests in a capitalist society where corporations love to buy out other corporations and take control of the IP. You can't take control of GNU IP, the community and the license don't allow that sort of thing to happen. You can direct a small part of the IP for a time, but if the community does not approve of the direction your IP becomes worthless to them.
If you are working to make money then you can get creative and use the GPL, but its probably better if you went to work for Microsoft or SCO. They'll give you a good salery and make you happy. Just watch out for those rounds of layoffs. That can be a bitch.
See, that's why I'm not greedy anymore. After watching those rounds of layoffs I came to the conclusion that my time is worth more money than I'll ever make in my life. When I agree to work for a company I agree to give them some of my time in exchange for money. But I'm happy to quit or leave whenever they want. And I don't really care about making a profit for them. They certainly won't give me any of that profit, unless I buy a bunch of their stock, etc. Nobody really "cares" about anyone else. They just pretend that there's this type of honor and duty to work for the man. And some of them get to retire and ripe old age. The rest probably don't live that long.
Don't just learn about critical thinking and how to detect bs. Learn about psycheology and how to manipulate the mind. Then you might begin to understand both why and how we do these things. Its human nature.
But sadly what phycheology taught me was that school is designed to prepare a person for work instead of make them a critical thinker. Want to be a critical thinker? Read some books about the topic and be a critical thinker, school won't help you much.
I would love to perform some psychelogical operations on a large cross section of the public. I'd love to see how easy people can be manipulated, just as a personal experiment. Because I think most Americans honestly don't mind it at all. Some of them even enjoy it.
