I'm not discrediting these guys and I'm honestly curious: How to they arrive at these numbers? How does one determine if a computer is infected without access to said computer?
Do they port scan 1000 random machines and extrapolate from there? I'm genuinely curious to know their methods. How could they arrive at such a precise number? Surely they must only have a sample of macs and use statistical models to extrapolate, right? They can't scan all the macs, right? right?
subjected to it? it's common to play music in public areas. you don't like it, bring headphones. this is not unique to subway stations. go into wendy's and they'll be playing crappy music over the PA. the only solution is to bring headphones and listen to your own music, sorry. it's just music though, it won't hurt you, i promise.
Man, wouldn't that be great? Catholics ruling the country! Just what our founding fathers wanted! Because Catholicism just makes sense! We can kill prisoners and then imprison women who have abortions! It's just so logical. Yup, those Catholics really have it figured out. All our little boys will undoubtedly enjoy all the attention from the priests.
Yup, if I had to decide where to send my child for education, I'd send them to school with an organization that has had absolutely NO HISTORY OF ABUSING CHILDREN like the Catholic church. Yup, the Catholic church is the best place to send my kid. They would never be abused there, under god's watchful eye! Ohh and they'd learn all about how evolution is a lie! Don't forget that important fact! Imagine where society would be if we let our children believe THAT horrible "theory".
Oh absolutely, but if there's limits, then I'd like to know them so that I can make sure to not exceed them. Instead, they say Unlimited* and I have no idea how much bandwidth I can REALLY use.
Yeah they give you Unlimited* bandwidth, which is very different from truly unlimited bandwidth.
The asterisk means that they can suspend your account whenever they want for using too much bandwidth. It's so funny to never see the word unlimited without the asterisk in the hosting world.
They oversell like crazy. A friend of mine used to work for them. Seriously, they put 8,000 sites on a single server. hostnine.com is just as bad and also greatly oversells their servers as well. It's funny though, if you go in live chat and ask "how many other sites will be on my server with me?" they'll always say "oh less than 100" which is completely false.
This is only true of their shared hosting service though. I can't speak for their VPS service. Also their founder Brent Oxley is a giant douche.
Indeed, they're lucky to be paid to do what they love AT ALL. Most americans are stuck doing some job they HATE, and these "artists" complain because they're not able to buy another gold statue of themselves.
Here's a hint to all those "artists": most musicians are broke as fuck but keep playing anyway, because they're not in it for the money, they're in it for the music. As a musician myself, I would be honored if people downloaded my music for free. I'm sharing something that I created with the world, and the fact that another person can get joy out of my music just like I can makes it all worthwhile. I think that any street musician would agree.
Yeah, game are identical to real life. Now excuse me while I steal a cop car, run the cops over, and then hide out in an alley for 30 secs to get my 3-star wanted level to fade away.
indeed, he has many non-sony posts and posts that don't even push a product or company at all. he would have to be a very clever 'turfer with a lot of time to post all those other posts.
understanding physical effects which will bear no consequence on the extreme challenges we will face in the very, very near future.
This is just flat out wrong. You should know from getting an undergraduate physics degree that EVERYTHING we use for technology now was at one time a "physical effect which will bear no consequence on the extreme challenges we will face in the future". Seriously, just look at electricity and magnetism as an example. Those were just "physical effects" at one time but now they're the basis of computing. We're now using computers to model biological systems and cure diseases, which is just one example of thousands where we're taking extreme problems and solving them with something that was once just an odd "physical effect".
What if they learn something from the neutrino observatory that leads to teleportation technology? Or solves our energy crisis somehow? These are all possibilities and to not investigate the unknown is just a waste of humanity itself. You're a scientist, man. Act like one! Where's your spirit of curiosity and undying passion to know the unknown? I guess you decided to go into engineering instead of research, and maybe that passion isn't something we share. Engineering is an awesome degree and I hope you do great things with it. But don't lose your inquiring spirit:-)
Really? Plenty of corporate grade laptops that are of similar quality? I searched and searched last time I needed a new laptop and the only ones that came close to Apple were Lenovos. Please cite an example of one that's of similar quality, I'd love to get one.
Also just for clarification, I'm not defending Apple's patent trolling, I think it's bad publicity and paints the company in a very negative light. But the system itself is clearly broken when a company can abuse it like this. And let's not forget that Apple isn't the only patent troll out there, and in my opinion they're far from the worst of the bunch. Only on Slashdot are users familiar with all the companies that are solely patent trolls and don't even produce any products. Apple is acting negatively, but at least they make things with those patents. It's still patent trolling though, IMO.
iThings can get OTA updates with the latest os version, iOS 5.
But keep in mind that even though Apple releases updates for their older devices, they often disable many of the new features because of "performance" issues. But let's be honest, my jailbroken 3G doesn't run any slower with a custom background or lockscreen.
Apple will still offer the disk in stores, Google it. You'll find that Apple employees have confirmed that users with bandwidth restrictions or users without an internet connection can still update by buying a disk in store.
You live in Florida, and want to study Computer Science cheaply at a state subsidized school? Move.
There are other schools in Florida with good CS programs, you know... FSU is ranked in the 70's for CS research, for example.
The point is to make an object strong enough such that it doesn't need an electromagnetic field in order to travel at such high rates of speed.

How do they do it?!?!
Ferengi rules of acquisition, anyone?
Man they should really advertise that free app converter!
it's easier, but not as fun as bashing apple and predicting doom and gloom for it
Egypt has been war free for 25 years. Nice try though.

did you mean inimical?

Aha! I was looking under F. Thanks!
I'm aware of their use of Foxconn from past articles, but how come I don't see Foxconn on the list linked in this article?

I wish the US govt had balls like that

Hahaha somebody get this guy some mod points
