This experience is not typical... many people see avg download speeds around 2MB/s, and upload speeds around 1MB/s. There are many people whose tivos perform as poorly as yours does, though... not sure what the reason is behind the variance.
I've been looking at getting this kit, or waiting for this kit to become available. There are plenty of Verilog tutorials out on the web. Not sure of any good sites for teaching digital design... you might want to try MIT's OpenCourseWare for 6.111.
well, the first part is the problem. itunes and its brethren won't make a cd image - they look for a cd burner. So i need a driver that will present itself as a burner to itunes, but then just goes and creates a cd image.
The stock bittorrent also comes with btdownloadheadless.py. When I'm not actively logged into my linux box, i ssh in, run "nohup btdownloadheadless.py", then logout. Periodically log back in to look at nohup.out and see how it's doing.
For MMS streaming, I use SDP (a windows utility). You can do it on unix too... i believe the name of the utility is mmsclient. iirc, it's bundled now with mplayer or one of the other common unix media players.
you want m3u2sburner. It's still not a interface, but much better than openmd or real one. basically, it's a bit of a hack that convert your mp3 files to wav, then uses daemon tools to present the collection of wav files as a cd for simple burner so you can bypass all the drm nonsense.
this is rated funny, but it's mostly true. i do want to point out that bush ii is actually taller than schwarzenegger... bush is 6', schwarzenegger is like 5'10" or so (though he claims to be 6'2")
the parent is not referring to quotes from the main article, but from a salon article linked to from itsparent. The quotes are accurate. So do not mod the comment down.
ok, i confess i didn't read the article, but a recent mit project seems related: LAMP FAQ (scroll down a bit). offering cds over cable with an internet based request system. still in beta right now.
louder is better for compression formats, too

i remember reading that the wma format boosts the volume of recordings by 3db, and was doing better than mp3 and other formats in some tests. when they altered the code to make the mp3 encoder boost volume by the same amount, wma suddenly didn't look so hot.
if you want to hear really bad production on what should have been a great cd, check out "songs for the deaf" by queens of the stone age. the dynamic range has been compressed so much it's really ridiculous.
There is: ESMTP. Provides a framework for extending SMTP, including allowing for username/password authentication. Wrap it with SSL/TLS and you're good to go. Most of the popular MTA's (sendmail, postfix, qmail) either have built-in support or patches available, and many popular MUA's (outlook/oe, mozilla, evolution) support it as well.

What does B&D stand for?

anyone know of virtual cd-burner software for windows? i've been looking for a while but haven't been able to find anything.

How doth the hero strong and brave,
A celestial path in the heavens pave!

Uh, go, Mike Melvill, go.
note that the beastie boys do, in fact, have their own record label.
mcnuggets, tasty golden french fries, regular or larger size, big big breakfast, ...
that's where my memory taps out.

I'm interested in hearing exactly what complaints you have about the lemelson-mit inventor's program. Got any links?
No, it turns out you are right, cit & foonet are one and the same. http://www.easynetworknyc.com/foonet/
days late? the article you point to was posted all of 12 hours ago...

would "this player does not support ogg vorbis" count?

someone's too used to typing "ph33r" on DALnet...
aren't you the guy who wrote that series of articles about counting cards at casinos? that was fantastic stuff, i'll have to check this piece out too.

Actually, there was already a story about both the broadq and snapstream software available for tivo.
