  1. Re:lemme guess on IQ 'a Myth,' Study Says · · Score: 0

Well put. Our brains work by associating information with logically-similar information. It's a matter of how you associate things to other things. Our ability to sort through this information is where the IQ comes in. However, you prove that this doesn't make you necessarily "better" at thinking, or "better" at "things in general", because there is another part of ourselves, other than the brain. It's the heart. How do we measure the ability of the heart? One who has equal ability with both brains, and the heart is the true genius. You measure another person's brain, with your brain. You measure another person's heart with your heart.

My guess is, they're just trying to pick up some good karma, "encouraging" people to pick up a teaching career and leave, instead of just laying them off life HP did. That way, they'll be able to cut their employment costs, at the same time still retaining a positive image.

That goes without saying, I think. But what is really happening is that, and as great as the education system is America now, there would be far to many teachers, and it would then suck to be a teacher.

Isn't it funny how teachers are so admired, but at the same time, so disrespected? Teaching is not something that you do because you -needs a job man-, it's only successful if it comes from your heart. Maybe that sounds cheesy, but it's true.

I can hear it now, "Don't you talk to me like that you little shit, I use to work at IBM!"

So why did you decide on Slackware, as opposed to the myriad other options?

I chose Slackware really because Fedora Core 4 was being a bitch to install. I built a new box that has 1 SATA drive, and one IDE. The whole time, my friend that was doing the install for me kept mumbling something about Slackware. Had I known what slackware is, I would have originally chosen it.

Accually I do have a C:\ it's just spelled differently. Now it's my /mnt/hda1-c drive. I'm running WinXP on the same box, different drive.

No telling what this kid accually did, or can do. Obviously he's not good enough to not get caught, but we live in a world that has not fully understood the whole "hacker" thing yet, we just know it bad and sends you to hell. So in trying to make a case against someone who has "broken the law" they ALWAYS have to make sure that certain impressions are imposed on the general public.

And as for any security company wanting to hire this guy, well, he got caught, and that means that he's not very good. Because even if you get caught, you're supposed to have a way out if you know anything about security.

  16. Here's TFA on Australian Man Found Guilty for Hyperlinking · · Score: 0
It took almost two years but major record labels in Australia have finally won a legal battle against a Queensland man and his Internet Service Provider for alleged music piracy.

Stephen Cooper, operator of the mp3s4free Web site, was found guilty of copyright infringement by Federal Court Justice Brian Tamberlin.

Although Cooper didn't host pirated recordings per se, the court found he breached the law by creating hyperlinks to sites that had infringing sound recordings.

This is the first such judgement against hyperlinking in Australia.

Tamberlin found against all other respondents in the case, namely ISP Comcen, its employee Chris Takoushis, Comcen's parent company E-Talk Communications, and its director Liam Bal.

In October 2003, the record companies, which included Universal Music, Sony, Warner and EMI, alleged that Cooper cooperated with Bal and Takoushis to increase traffic to the ISP, and aide advertising revenue.

Subsequently, the court was told Cooper was unaware he may have infringed copyright law, while E-Talk and Comcen argued they didn't know of Cooper's actions.

In handing down his judgement today, Tamberlin said: "I am satisfied there has been infringement of copyright.

"I won't make formal orders as yet. But since there's been infringments ...the respondents must pay the applicants' costs."

Outside the Sydney court, Music Industry Piracy Investigations general manager Michael Kerin said the verdict sent a strong message to ISPs.

"This is a very significant blow in the war against piracy.

"The court has found against all the respondents. It sends the message that ISPs who involve themselves in copyright infringement can be found guilty.

"The verdict showed that employees of ISPs who engage in piracy can be seen in the eyes of the court as guilty," Kerin said.

Cooper was not present in court. His legal counsel, Bev Stevens, said the verdict was "extremely disappointing".

The parties will only be required to pay costs -- which will be decided in 14 days once the music industry serves short minutes of orders in reponse to the judgement.

This really doesn't give a $amount, just a warning to ISPs and those who dare f%@k with the music industry. As long as you don't try to be so damn "out-in-the-open" about trading music and such, these guys won't bother with you. But go try to be a bad-ass, and this is what you'll most likely get. But really I'd be suprised if the fine is over $1,000.
