Tolkien gave a lot of hacks plenty to rip off, that's for sure.
any discussion at all of LOTR simply must include Micheal Moorcock's essay Epic Pooh, which has a lot to say on the matter of Tolkien and all the hacks that continuously rehash the jolly old england theme. http://www.revolutionsf.com/article.php?id=953
.... the states rights are the right to make laws about all matters not reserved for the federal government by the constitution. its sorta what the tenth amendment is about. overdrive is working with amazon to provide library content, many libraries already have it. also kindle users are not "stuck" in the amazon ecosystem anymore then ipod users are "stuck" in the itunes ecosystem. i have several hundred books on my kindle, and haven't bought any from amazon.
In case you did not know mp3's, ogg's, and aac encoding schemes only remove sounds above and bellow the biologically possible auditory sensory range of human ears. so if you 'claim' to hear the difference your either one of the 1/10th of 1 percent of people who have higher or lower then normal hearing.
bullshit.
thats true of the higher bitrates, the goal is to first remove sounds above and "bellow" what we can hear, but guess what? our ears are all different and as bitrates get lower and lower, it gets easier and easier to discern the difference. while it surely does take amazing ears to tell the difference between 256 or 320 mp3 and flac, many people can tell the difference between 128kkps mp3 and flac. anyone with half a working ear could tell between 32kbps mp3 and flac.

Yeah, Avatar was insanely succesful without having a great plot, or acting, or anything besides great visuals. I liked Avatar, but don't see many others pulling similar feats off in the future, without a little bit more meat to the movie, like good acting and a decent plot. I don't think we've seen a movie that combines 3d with good plat and/or acting yet, so it's hard to say how audiences will react.
i thought the creator of this site was Mr Wong from Wong Burger, and it seemed like he knew what he was doing. It does take a lot of dicks to make a dickship.
as an avid reader and book collector/seller, I can't imagine writing in or highlighting books myself, but I do tend to see dozens of highlighted and/or written in books a week. What surprises me is it's almost always the first 20 or so pages that are marked up, they almost never have the stamina to go the distance. I usually don't buy marked up copies unless its something uncommon that I want to read, or I'm almost certain the used book store I supply will give me a decent profit on.
Actually, I think a good many speakeasies, especially up north, sold Canadian Liquor of varying qualities. Also, from what I've read of Mencken, he was able to also get beer at some speakeasies.
I keep hearing over over, "they're showing ads so they can charge you less" on this and every post/. ever has where ads in paid content are mentioned. This simply isn't so, profits aren't a zero-sum game. They're showing ads so the can make more money.
Call me a cook, but I think letting the govt have sensitive data I wouldn't even want google to have just seems ridiculous. I know I'm supposed to trust the govt to protect and serve, but I don't. I don't trust google either, but they're certainly less corrupt then the govt. in my world view.
Hasn't google already conceded said data exists and was accidently collected? If they've already publically admitted it exists, keeping it around only worsens and extends any possible privacy violations.
no, its like copying someone else's apple.

if you want to read literary criticism to confirm your position, then stay away from updike's criticism, cause he's great

at least he's not snorting it through a bitcoin, i heard those things have all sorts of germs on them
we can all agree on that? then why are we even having this discussion? oh, it's because we don't all agree at all

The #1 reason I avoid pirated software is because more often than not, they contain malware and viruses.
More often then not? Really? I think we all know better then this.
Obviously this is just a big scheme to train /.'rs to RTFA

You seem to be awfully emotionally invested in this. Take it easy, you'll have a heart attack. Go see a movie, maybe on of those cool new 3D ones.

well they'd be running for the hills not in Florida, which certainly seems reasonable to me.

or how 'bout we use "open" instead of free. "free" is too ambiguous. (i'd much rather use free as gratis then free as in open)
But on what scale did he ask them to rate usability scales? Seems like there might be a bias towards whatever scale might be used.

Why yes, yes it is. What we've got here is a difference in fundamental world views.
