I asked a Best Buy sales rep how he like the PS3. He said "well I wouldn't buy one just yet, the demo unit freezes up all the time..." Needless to say he didn't sell me a unit that day. Maybe Sony should send a memo to their retailers explaining this "feature" if they want to sell it
I realize it makes people warm and fuzzy inside to use an OS that is entirely free and open, but this Nvidia driver installation has been annoying me for the last 8 installs of Linux I've tried. Could some enthusiastic young hacker out there make this a little easier for us older less initiated folks. How many of us are running nvidia graphics cards again? like 80%?
I actually tried a version of Kororaa a while back that worked with Nvidia right out of the box, only to find out later it was a terrible mistake on their part and was quickly "resolved" and the nvidia drivers removed. Someone help us...
I'm to lazy to go look for it... Could someone point us the way to an installer that gives us mp3, dvd playback etc all at once. I seem to recall that something like this exists somewhere.
It sounds like we don't have too much to worry about with a Korean war if they're all starving. I wonder if their men would surrender easily if we offered them good food and a warm bed? I don't really know, I guess they might be more loyal citezens than they are survivalists.
The aquifer you're referring to is the Ogallala Aquifer. There's a nice graphic on the Wikipedia link that shows the rate of decline the aquifer has been undergoing. I hope someone is working on a plan to refill this thing...
I have heard some concern about the booming ethanol industry in the midwest and the lack of water supply from my geologist/meteorologist friends. This is a very real concern for those in the know, and apparently not so much for those in for a profit, ie those riding the ethanol bandwagon for a quick fleeting fortune.
Ethanol sounds promising as a short term assistance to weening ourselves off foreign oil. Unfortunately tho, it's widely accepted by climatologists that the Ogallala Aquifer is on course to dry up within a few short decades, and this isn't taking into account the hundreds of ethanol plants that have been developed accross the midwest recently. There will soon be a demand for corn that will create a demand for water that will no longer exist.
The decline in new and glorious innovations is undoubtedly caused by the fact that we've already invented everything ground breaking that can be invented. What a boring world we live in now. We'll look back on these years and realize that since the coming of the Segway humans have done all we can do...
So what this really shows us is that the winner of future wars will be determined by the country who has the most skilled gamers. I think I like the direction things are headed.
Let's be sure to stay friends with the Japanese tho.
I want to use linux as my primary desktop, I really do. I've been installing Red Hat since v.6 and am now on Fedora 4. I still have yet to install a flavor of Linux that lets me do what I do in the current version of Windows without searching the web for hours for some obscure rpm, doing some compile that crashes half-way through or other basic bash commands I would otherwise do in GUI.
Not to mention the numerous apps I give up like Rhapsody and Morrowind to use Linux.
That's my 2 cents, in the hopes that some talented programmers with lots of resources and vision will read this and decide to make Linux into a better desktop.
The old ways of China are falling right before our eyes. The question is will this great nation degress into civil war or will enough of this young free-thinking generation pull together and peacefully take the reigns from the old guard. If the latter happens America may be left wondering where its world dominance went so quickly.
I don't know enough about China's political situation to guess which route they will take though.
We invented the internet, why should we hand it over to anyone else? 95% of good internet content is based in the US. All we have to do is threaten to cut the rest of the world off from accessing our websites and the rest of the world's internet would fade away due to lack of interest.
I'm fully confident in our ability to make good software to meet ever increasing challenges, even to the point that we can have smart cars who take over driving if the driver is incapacitated. But to have a car drive me around on its own free will is a level of trust I wouldn't leave with Microsoft or any car manufacturer around today.

See everyone later, I'm moving to the nearest cave where I can choose between eating dirt and blind fish.

From a Christian perspective, If someone wrote a fiction book that was degrading to your mother or father that you loved, you would not be so happy.

I'll give all my mod points to whoever can explain to me what Schrodinger's running cat has to do with my laptop's speed.

Could someone please elaborate on whether using Firefox browser will help avoid this security hole.

I will pay someone to design one of these in Battlefield so I can waste it with my shoulder mount and enjoy its terrific explosion.
