    Exactly what part of xbox360 is "milking its market share"? It's been gaining market share hand over fist since release date. Windows 7 has all sorts of enhancements both to the UI, and the programming interfaces.

    Anyone that says they aren't innovating either hasn't used their products, or is trolling for slashdot karma.

    Firefox. There are patches given back by the community to exploits all the time that could be sold on the black market instead.

    There is no "own gain". iPhone exploiters are doing so for the good of the many. If they wanted personal gain, they'd never release a public root app. Every time they do so, Apple patches the exploit, and thus they can no longer use it. If it were for personal gain, they'd keep it to themselves, and wouldn't have to constantly be searching for a new exploit. OR, they'd be selling the exploit on the black market.

    If the platform were open, the hackers would be incentivized to work with Apple to close the holes, rather than save them to jailbreak.

    Of course you can compare the two. That's the point! The US should be embracing diesel's instead of shunning them. Claiming it's not a fair test because one runs diesel is BS. You might as well say we can't compare hybrid's to straight gasoline because it's a hybrid. WTF?

    EMC won't automatically move anything. Stop listening to marketing droids. "FASTv2" on anything you can connect to a mainframe is nothing but a marketing slide at this point, and likely will continue to be for the next 6 months.

    So if the pilot has a aneurism mid-way across the Atlantic, one of the flight attendants is going to take over? I know auto-pilots have come a long way over the years, but I'd rather have a qualified, competent, human backup at the ready. This guy doesn't sound like he has the mental prowess to run a Burger King. Which genius decided he should be CEO?

    You're making the incorrect assumption that the Swedish public wishes to cater to America's every want/need. The basis of the Pirate Party was BECAUSE the existing politicians caved in to America, and the Swedish public was PISSED. They don't want America meddling in their politics, or their country at all. Attacking wikileaks in Sweden would be America attacking Sweden's sovereignty once again, and you can bet your ass the public there won't stand for it. I get the impression you're a right-wing American who has been brainwashed to believe the rest of the world is just there to do your bidding. Wake up.

    I noticed free memory on the system was at 2GB and dropping quickly when they moved focus away from the console session (even though all of the VM's had the exact same app set running). This appears to be absolutely nothing new or amazing... in fact, it reads like an ad for gridcentric.

    No, there are very few people who GET THE CHANCE to lead these big corporations. You have absolutely 0 proof that other people in the population would not do as well if not better than they would. There is no "CEO test", and if there were, I would be absolutely shocked to find out only a tiny percentage of the population could do so successfully.

    Professional sports requires a god-given natural ability that is provably rare in the population. Becoming a CEO does not.

    What exactly are the big risks? If you fail, you turn to your buddies doing well for an "angel investment" and start all over again. If you get caught lying/stealing/cheating, you have to give up about 10% of your hundreds of millions in profit to make the SEC go away.

    The people who are investing their money are the only ones taking a risk. If the boss gets greedy and makes a few bad trades, they can kiss a nice chunk of their 401k goodbye. If he does a good job, he'll take 20% of the earnings for himself because he managed to find a couple of sucker programmers willing to write something to do all the work for him.

    That's FUD. You can still download and run Solaris for free. You only need to pay for it for commercial use.

    Linux and *BSD still have nothing to compete with zfs and dtrace. Their competition to crossbow (new networking stack) sucks. And even with SELinux, can't touch the fine grained access controls built into Solaris. But I suppose if you've never used it, it seems like it doesn't do much different.

    The thing I don't get is Oracle's utter silence on the issue If they're discontinuing Opensolaris (even though they've claimed they aren't twice now), why not just come out and say it? They stopped releasing builds, they aren't interacting with the governing board... you'd think SOMEONE there would realize that saying nothing is WORSE than just pulling the plug. If they are indeed pulling the plug, and came right out and said it from the start, I'm sure they'd find plenty of customer still willing to use Solaris proper. At this point though, going by the mailing lists and customers of mine who run solaris and Opensolaris, they've simply turned many paying and non-paying (but mindshare) customers into bitter people. The type of people who go out of their way as admins to make sure that a company's wares don't exist in the shop in any form if they can be replaced. The stuff they've been doing is the type that causes irreparable damage to their image. At some point they're going to have to figure out that people can very easily move away from an OS... it's not like their database customers that are generally stuck with them because it's so much work to move to something else.

    Based on the security level assigned to the documents, he could make a pretty damn good case for the fact that it's nothing "too terrible". Unless you have proof these documents are coming from wildly different levels of classification, he wouldn't have had to read them to know just *how bad* the information would be.

    Wait, so your excuse for Irix is that SGI is still selling enterprise class servers that run Irix? What next, are you going to complain you can't run Flash on an HDS USP-V? I can't fathom why Adobe wouldn't be making flash for an EOL OS from a company which no longer exists who no longer produces hardware that will even run it.

    As for FreeBSD, it's been included with PC-BSD for 2 years, build instructions have been around longer than that: http://crnl.org/blog/2008/11/01/flash-9-for-freebsd-71

    So when you specifically called out "flash games" what you really meant were "ads on webpages"? That's an interesting interpretation of your own statements. At least get your talking points straight.

    As for ads, there will be ad blockers, just like on regular browsers. Amazing how the problems tend to correct themselves like that.

    Irix is dead (literally EOL 4 years ago...).
    FreeBSD has flash support.
    Solaris has flash support.
    64bit Linux has flash support.


    Even HP won't try to sell you HPUX for anything but servers at this point, but if you really want it, you can get it. You're going to have to try harder than that.
