Sounds like you are wanting Linspire. The benefit is that once people get used to Linspire they should feel at least somewhat comfortable with other KDE systems. However, notice the terrible backlash that Linspire has received for doing pretty much what you said.
It does depend on what you are trying do with it. I had linux running on my computer, and my Mom would routinely use it to surf the web with no problems. In fact, I am building a linux box for her to surf the web and listen to music/audio-books with. Once I get it set up pretty much all she has to do it click the internet button or the amarok button... and those things pretty much come as default with Kubuntu or Mepis.
As much as a liked the idea, I think there were two fundamental problems:
1) What exactly defines pr0n? Complete nudity? Partial nudity? The line between swimsuit editions and pr0n can get pretty blurry.
2) How would you keep pr0n from appearing on.com websites? Screen every image as it is uploaded? That would be very hard to monitor.
Now try to imagine them making a camera that actually takes high-res shots at 100 million pixels. Nothing like seeing a 1280x1024 pixel image all blurry and blocky. I would personally rather see it on a 1280 x 1024 monitor for clarity sake.
In general I've gotten so tired of hearing people sound like they were talking in a barrel when I tried using a headset that I stick to the speaker phone option on my cell phone for hands free use if possible. I find the quality to be much better and easier to understand.
Maybe it should say the universe as we know it. How can you put a beginning on something like that... if it started with the big bang, then the material to make the big bang already existed, essentially our universe in a different form... and so on. Personally I think for the big bang to be true (assuming no external intervention) there could be no beginning... time would have to go infinitely backward. Is that possible? I guess that is something we each have to decide for ourselves.
It frustrates me that Microsoft wants to charge people for flaws in their own operating system. Typically bug fixes are included with an OS for free, but Microsoft wants us to pay them to keep bad stuff off of our computer, when the OS should inherently do that. *sigh*

I find sudoku to be the most useful... wow, I've really got to stop playing that game.
I have often thought that people who were likely to commit murder were attracted to violent video games, and NOT that violent video games created murderers. Perhaps we should find out what percentage of violent video game players DO NOT commit violent crimes... probably in the high 90 percentage count. Also, perhaps we should find out how many people who commit violent crimes didn't even play violent video games. For those who believe in the Bible... Cain slew Abel... and that was before violent video games, movies, or anything else of that nature.
can we not have any comments from republicans raving over it just because he is republican, or democrats hatin' on it just because he is a republican. Just for once can we look at an idea and judge it on it's own merit? Having said all of that, this is probably a big waste of money:-).
I too have often thought that his words strictly interpreted meant that he said he invented the internet. But as has been noted several times, he said he took the initiative in creating it. I looked up the word initiative, and it basically means beginning step... and I think that is what he was trying to say... and is arguably true. I think the problem came in when people, myself included, didn't understand the meaning of the word initiative. Well... that and the fact that you have people out there that just like to twist what people say. I don't much care for Al Gore, but I at least think his grammar actually made good sense.
IT TOO IS NEWS!!!1111 ;)

nothing quite like the feeling of helplessly drifting through space.

Hoorah!
It isn't worth much until games actually start using it.

I'm calling dibs on the sad face, angry face, and slightly indifferent face.

Click here for the patch.
...and here I was thinking that April Fool's day was tomorrow. Man, nobody ever tells me anything.

Perhaps a bit off-topic... but if it is main-stream, it isn't neo-conservative anymore.
How does religion influence technology development in the Arab world?
I think I'll just stick with Mac OS X.
People still do that... they just call them e-books now.

I was thinking perhaps "Farfaux" ;)

Al-Gore-Ithm:
while (!elected) {
recount();
}
Almost as good as the Howard-Dean-Ithm:
while (popular) {
scream();
}
Or the Bush-Ithm:
while (ratings < 0) {
cout << "Terrorism..." << std::endl;
}

That actually sounds a little scary. Isn't that what shortcuts are already?
