Real Americans don't give up so easy. A measly 7.5 years? Puhlease... If McCain had been elected we'd be there for another 7.5... along with 30 years in Iran and who knows how long on the Korean peninsula.
I mean really, which party would you rather have in office?
Well, we are still in Germany and Japan. Long enough for you?
Does it matter if it's anthropogenic? I'm against a hot world with rising seas, melting ice caps and global drought. I'm against all of the other terrible nastiness associated with it. I don't give a damn who we blame, but let's find a way to halt/fix it, shall we?
I have news for you. There is nothing to "fix." The world's weather changes over time. There is nothing you or anyone can do about it. There was a time when there were no polar ice caps.
The Earth is fixing itself. I supposed one place to start is looking back and find out what caused the start and end to the past ice ages. Earth's orbit? Sun spots? Solar temp changes?
I think it sucks that even such draconian measures don't get people to STOP RUNNING THE DAMN RED LIGHT!
There's only one method I'm aware of which has been proven to reduce the number of people running red lights: increasing the duration of the amber light. Red light tickets merely increase accidents on the approach to the light as people slam on the brakes to stop and idiots go into the back of them.
But North American stop lights are a disastrous design anyway.
There is a second option, put the onus on the driver. You run the red light, you get a fine. You cause an accident, you are at fault. Oh wait, that's already the way it is. There are problems with districts shortening the yellow because the cost of renting the camera costs more then it raises. Same goes for speed cameras. Once folks know it's there, the camera starts to lose money. Thus the reason for the mobile cameras that have started to show up the last few years. There is no way to prevent folks from running a red light or speeding. And I'm as guilty as anyone for both. Though I rarely run red lights. But I do speed. Not excessively, but I will keep up with traffic movement which can be at 75 or 80mph in a 65 or 55 zone. Am I breaking the law. Yep. Can I be singled out and pulled over. Without argument (stating that "They are speeding too" is not a valid argument). But I run those speeds to not get run over and keep the flow of traffic moving.
The cameras are all about revenue. Period. Personally, I like the fact that there are no points. Yes, there is no due process which is very concerning. But the last time I got a ticket was 10 years ago. I think folks just need to be more aware when they drive. Eyes on the road will save your life.

If you are a person who is out of work, you could do this. Looking at the rules, they basically are getting you on the cheap. 10k for 720+ hours of work (there are appearances after the 30 days are up as well). That comes out to $13.89 per hour. Though the rules don't specify that you can leave daily for a regular job. It is a good promotional trick though.
Oh man...I wish our power company offered something like that (we live in Maryland, ~30 minutes outside of DC)
I agree, and ever since the Maryland Government went away from regulation, energy prices are going to be like California soon. It's really gotten out of hand IMO. BGE is just paying for the poor investments that Constellation Energy made over the last few years. It's really a lot of BS IMO.

Ok. What happened on the island did happen. It was the real timeline. The 'other' timeline was not created by the bomb going off. It was just a jumping point into purgatory. Those who showed up at the church, became at peace with their 'former' timeine and moved on. So, others who were not there but on the island could have moved on before, after, or not at all (eloeise Hawking for example). Faraday had not had is 'wake up' moment yet with Charlotte. But he may since he just met her there. Then move on later. So the 'sideways' timeline could have been thousands of our timeline years since Hurley could have been guardian for the island for who know's how long before he joined the group at the church. Sawyer could have lived to be 90, but then died and reverted back to the 'sideways' timeline so he could join the group at the point of time for him/them that was the most significant. The show wasn't about the island itself. It never was. It was about the folks who survived the initial crash and moved on. The second flight did leave the island. And Jack did die in the bamboo. But it took them all to die on their own time before they all met back up in the sideways. So Ben had not yet been at peace with his actions to enter the church. It's all very Catholic at it's core. Now if you were looking for what the island was or were it came from, that, I'm afraid is going to be another story. Or you could use your imagination. That is the idea here. Every person enjoying the story at their own level.
I would add that this law is totally invading the right of the person to eat whatever he/she wants! Who are they to tell me NOT to eat a pack of Jolly Rancher? Or to tell my kid that I should not let him/her eat this crap occasionnaly?
When did the Jolly Ranchers become illegal and subject to be excluded from school?
When my tax dollar go to pay for weight induced medical costs. I'm being over the top, I know. But it will come to this someday I'm afraid. The "sin tax" will soon include certain foods and be taxed just like alcohol and tobacco products.
Pornography is defined at least here in the states as being primarily for prurient interests and having no social or artistic value.
Heck, Wales uses the same criteria in the summary.
So Venus de Milo wouldn't count.
What else do you got?
The artistic value is based on who's judgment is the point here. Just because a group of people get together and state that an old sculpture of a partially clothed (or mostly nude depending on your take) woman is art vice pornography doesn't make sense. It is a social philosophical issue of what is art vice what is pornography. Better yet, why pornography has such taboo tied to it yet violence is fine. Games and movies have freedom with violence, but flash a woman's breast and folks get all wound up.
Playing baseball - boring. Watching baseball - very boring. Playing a video game of baseball - even more boring. Watching someone play a video game of baseball - kill me now.
It depends about the video of someone playing a baseball computer game. Does it have that mullet forever hair, 80's throwback Billy Mitchell in it?
The FDIC and NCUA do not insure banks against robbery, they insure the depositors (you) against the failure of the bank. Anyway, yes it would basically be the same thing, and the loss would be covered by the banks insurer.
So why would anyone be upset by the presentation then if the security flaws are already covered by the FDIC and NCUA? Could it be that then the cost of protection starts to eat away profits?
As much as it's true that a thief won't bother with something that's not worth his time, there's another side of the coin to keep in mind. If it costs considerably more to make something more secure, the customer isn't going to purchase the product to begin with.
I've gotta believe that the banks have accepted a certain amount of risk, and therefore they've determined what those ATM's are worth to them given the cost of the unit itself as well as the cost of dealing with any issues that arise - including penetration.
Very good point. So how do you deal with that concerning your customers? Do you warn them with a signed statement that says there is a risk of theft on atm systems? Or are banks willing to eat the cost of a break in (reimbursement) when it happens and not warn customers.
I can't stand companies not taking security seriously.
Remember when ATMs first came out? The data being sent from ATM to the bank's systems had NO encryption.
Why? For pointing out security flaws? I know people love litigation as a means to prevent actions, however once information can be presented at a conference, any conference, don't you think that the cat is already out of the bag somewhere else.
Everyone should know that a lock can be picked. It's just a matter of return for a thief. Making the lock so time consumable to pick that it's not worth it. So the ATM manufactures have to create security that is not worth the criminals time. Now if these hacks are easy, then I think the consumers have a right to hold the banks accountable.

If you want to hide your SSID and the MAC of your router, why then are you broadcasting them into the public space? If this information is that important to you, switch to ethernet and disconnect that from the internet.
Most folks just don't know and just don't care. I mean, if you are stupid enough to leave your car doors unlocked, it doesn't mean that someone can get in to ride.
It just means that those who know might have to get a sense of responsibility to protect those who don't. Since so many others use that ignorance against people and they have no idea what is going on until it's too late.
I would think that this is North Carolina's way to have amazon.com to start collecting taxes when items are shipped to their state. It's a force move.
Logically, there would be way to much spent then collected IMO. The state would have to track down each customers tax returns for (they can only go back a certain amount of time for an audit and I though it was 5 years, not 7 which NC wants), and then correlate the data to either ensure that the taxpayer claimed the items or did not claim the items. Then the state would have to calculate taxes on said items, or see if it affects the effective tax rate for said taxpayer, then tack on interest to those monies, then notify the taxpayer if the state can find the tax payer (moved since filing, died, etc...).
Another question would be how the state came up with the number of purchases from amazon.com to their state?
Folks should be well aware of by now that when you do something that affects your employees or students, you check with a lawyer or lawyers first. Either that or like this school is learning, you will be dealing with them after the fact.
They must be quite the institution of learning to have administration that makes these decisions.
