He chose (or more likely his parents chose for him) to drop out of school and go to a mental hospital. He wasn't expelled, he wasn't forcibly institutionalized, and it doesn't look like he had much of a social life to destroy. Most people are humiliated at some point during adolescence. (True, not as an internet celebrity, but try telling that to the kid that just got pantsed in front of the entire cheerleading squad -- "Hey, at least it wasn't on the internet!") And most people learn to deal with it.

We own our feelings. No one makes us feel anything. We decide, consciously or not, how to feel in reaction to emotional stimuli. Learning this is part of growing up. Too bad Ghyslain's parents seem bent on preventing him from doing that. Maybe should be suing them.

Whether it's a proper punishment is certainly open to debate, but from some of the posts around here it seems some people see this as Big Government taking it upon itself to butt in on behalf of whiny little Sun as Microsoft was just peacefully strolling along minding its own business. I was trying to point out that this was a response to bad behavior on MS' part, not some kind of food stamp program for underprivileged corporations.

Why should a company be forced to include a competitors product with their own?

It's a punitive measure. You might as well ask why you'd be forced to live in a small locked room with barred windows if you went out on the street clocking passersby with a crowbar. Of course jailing you won't do anything for their head injuries, but it will presumably make you think twice about engaging in similar behavior in the future.

Woody Allen doesn't allow his movies to be edited for television. Spielberg has enough juice that he got Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan on primetime network TV unedited, unbleeped, and in the case of Schindler's List commercial-free. There are probably a few others, but most directors don't have the power to make that particular demand, and those that do are mainstream enough not to want to. And studios don't have any artistic vision to be damaged in the first place.

Besides, unless we eliminated our need for Mideast oil altogether they'd still have us over a barrel (so to speak.) If we need 100 barrels of oil and can only get 99 from other sources, it doesn't matter how cheap the 99 are since the provider of that last barrel can charge any amount it pleases, wiping out the savings on the first 99.
