Very definitely a good idea . but not likely to happen.. Same with most digital data . But you can easily back it up to dvd or an external drive or tape etc . I do occasionally get some things off of iTunes(things i can't get normally or only want one song off the album) , first thing I do is back it up to external media . There are plenty of good reasons to avoid online services such as yahoo or iTunes but that is not really one of them .
You know you can back them up on DVD or CD.. Its a good idea to do that with important data . I do buy most of my music via second hand CDs (or new if I can't find them second hand) but a failing HDD is not a reason to avoid iTunes .
"No one with an modicum of wit would ever find these things worth paying for except at the business end of a bobby's pistol." Yeah Monty python lacks and comedy brilliance , don't get me started on Fawlty towers. Also those dammed awful documentaries and shows like the sky at night . Also some low rated sci-fi like Dr Who and Red Dwarf BBC certainly is the worst .
Now I'm off , Its time for the men in white coats to give me my injections and warm coat with straps .
The tagging of "Professional Edition" on to an OS or piece of software is the equivalent of " FROD LOCUST GT EDITION... 2.6 cam engine Car ".There is likely no real advantage for most users and perhaps a few disadvantages , but people like to think they are getting the best . The easy answer;Name the normal version "Professional " or "Power user" and name the true pro version "industry " or such like .

I am currently waiting for some future furore over the issues of "Human-Alien marriage rights " , "second hand Teleport residue causing cancer"," dangerous addiction to Holo-decks" and "Wont somebody please think of the Alpha-centaurians " .
With their crystal ball are managing to see some ghosts in the machine , I don't believe in ghosts.Show me hard evidence or flutter off
OS X's stability is absolutely , in all the time i have been running the system I have had one crash (The Crash was my fault ) , The finder has restarted itself a few times which i believe has lost me a sum total of 60 seconds working time . The only times I have had programs that were unstable was when i was using Beta versions of things.
Security has also not been a problem , It automatically runs the system update regularly if you don't do it yourself . The worst that could happen is someone passes you a dodgy installer which runs some sort of server but that's not OS X's fault .
OS X is up there with the best *NIXs in these regards .
Symantec I believe has been using classic mac OSs (someone should tell them that 10 is a bigger number than 8) , They were buggy and full of holes .
OS X is not perfect by any means and has had its fair share of patches , But I could say with confidence that it could go toe to toe with linux in these areas .
Well it was not a dead joke to me , I had never heard of him before . Kind of like the band that the story is about. No idea who they are either . I am assuming the moderator also had not heard the joke and/or of.50 before .
But if you insist on a new joke....50 cents obviously has 1/20th the skill of Luciano Pavarotti* Stale jokes get stale because they are funny and people repeat them .
To stay a bit more on topic for a second(and to avoid a second post) , www.foetus.org has a few songs and videos available for download, about 11 tracks (though off various albums ) , all the tracks are By Foetus himself , he just uses different names occasionally .
Yes,though a lot of them make most of their money doing Gigs , so some Free Promos are always useful.
This way they can say up yours to the Record industry , persuade people to come see a concert and perhaps even sell some t-shirts/ CDs (I would still buy CD's even if it was available free , If i like it I would want to support the band )
I run Ubuntu on my PC's , Solaris and Debian on my servers and OS X +ubuntu on my Macs . I haven't had that many problems if there is a PPC port of the code (unless the source contains no Arch specific code).Fink is very very useful if you're ever using OS X (Apt-get on OS X , plenty of ports) if you don't feel like lumbering through miles of source code . I have rarely had problems though as most of the things I use the mac for are available (Plus I have linux running under Bochs if i ever need it , quite useful (if slow) for testing things) . OS X is not POSIX certified though the base system is based on FreeBSD .
The apple thing is all personal taste , I think iTunes is excellent as it does all it needs to for me (catalogues my collection , makes play lists , plays things and has a nice search ) . If you need a good Video player mplayer/VLC is ported and works like a charm . That is pretty much all I use my macs for , DVD / Video/A few games and testing/browsing web sites.
The laptops never gave me a problem because I loath any form of Touch pad;) and just plug a mouse in ( not always an ideal solution , but one of those pointers would be lovely ) The battery life on iBooks is very good also . I havn't really had a chance to play around with the latest iMac , Did it not come with an adaptor for the jack . The eMac has standard in and out for audio .
Ubuntu PPC is great , though there are less pre-compiled binaries available which can slow you down (depending on what you need)
Of course they have to have the money to fight it . Perhaps some lawyers would do it on a no-win no-fee basis. If you lose the case or the perpetrators have no way of paying the fine, then nothing can replace the time you lost on the case .
It does require at least 512MB RAM but I have never had a problem with it (both my Macs have 768 , though it was not bad on a 256MB mac mini i had a go on.. till you open up too many programs , a ram upgrade fixed that little glitch) I am more a *nix Zealot (though not really a zealot) than a mac zealot , but OS X is one of the best User level *nix's I have ever had the pleasure to use.10.4 has some noticeable improvements as a client computer and some great user level improvements . If your friend can afford it , tell him to get 256MB more ram in the machine , s/he will notice a world of difference . Honestly though , the GUI has not really changed bar some of the removed um.. bars . I suspect the problem they are having is to do with Spotlight or running Dashboard .
Under laws which control Fraud , Identify theft, and such like . IANAL but why would there need to be a new law for phishing? it is after all just fraud .
10.4 is a lot faster in my experience , It works more swiftly on my old g3 iMac (400mhz g3) (turned off the widgets).. but besides that . It has a great number of functional improvements on the command line and in the system programs.. not to mention the user land programs.. though i do prefer the 10.2 look I don't think there are that many differences on the GUI front On my g4 machine it simply flies . spotlight is also grand I would rather that Ubuntu had placed higher though (not strictly a 2005 thing )
People would likely also not mind nor notice if the standards were adhered to .
Of course it doesn't matter in the real world , so long as it gets the job done . We are not all in the real world (not literally )though , a lot of us here are in the IT industry and do mind when standards are not used properly .
If were talking about the Camera then the perspective thing is out the window . I would be interested in getting one , Depends how hackable it is.. Would be great if someone could implement some firmware hack so you could use your own server .
Religious tolerance is allowing people to freely express their beliefs and supporting their rights to hold those beliefs . There is nothing wrong with parodying them and having a laugh about how silly they are . Religion is something you choose and should be free to choose. It should also be something we are free to mock .
He sincerely believes that the spaghetti monster is a good parody , he sincerely believes that their religious ideas are a load of bunkum . Is there any difference ? Should he be disallowed from expressing those beliefs in this manner , especially with a crowed in which many share those beliefs .
Even though we all know its partially twaddle.. the word was created by the invisible pink unicorn and that the Spaghetti monster is in fact the great Evil .
Me and a few of my friends walked out of a bar one time with a table and four chairs. We returned them about 5 minutes after.. If it had possessed some Beer ordering wireless tech I imagine i would of kept it though .
Real world implementation could be perhaps just a concept design of the product or a prototype . Which should help most smaller inventors . There would need to be provisions to help the smaller inventors whistle still avoiding submarine patents
I realise we are not going to get rid of Patents any time soon . I have my own Ideas for global patent reform though.
1:They should be on a first to implement basis (real world use of the concept) 2: They should last for 3-5 years at max (which should be long enough for a company to make money in the market) 3: they must be specific to a particular process or concept 4: if patents are not defended as soon as it is reasonably possible to know infringement occurred , then they are lost and enter the public domain. 5: After the 3-5 year period then the patents enter the public domain and can never be re-patented 6: companies found to have patented another companies implementations will be fined heavily 7: Patents may be granted for a process which may save lives , though any attempts to restrict it with unreasonable fees will cause a loss of the patent . 8: Algorithms may not be patented
Playing games like UT2004 when we have a break from working .
Though I wouldn't buy an ATI card even if they got their drivers on par with their windows Drivers .
They are just not very good at OpenGL are they .

I got the link from the official public enemy site , so it is legit AFAIK
*tenner is UK slang for 10GBP (Pavarotti is a tenor ) in case anyone was wondering why that makes no sense
"50 cent relesed 5 hit mixtapes before he did a single paid album."
So by the time he released an album he was $2.50
