" this the first real evidence of their existence?" No , not at all . There have been numerous examples found over the years . As the article says
"Hundreds of sightings have been reported over the years and a leaked government document revealed 59 sightings had been reported in Gippsland between 1998 and 2001.
The cats are said to be descendants of animals that either escaped from zoos or circuses or were released by US airmen who kept them as mascots while stationed in Australia in World War II."
What is interesting is the cats origin , Is it a pure puma or has it interbred with other escaped cats in the bush
It does not really matter what a company lobbies for , It's the fact that the company is using money to pervert the democratic process . Representatives are meant to represent their constituents wishes , lobbying perverts this process . If a company wants to change some part of the law they should use that money to persuade the people .
MR Lobby:"Mr Representative sir , I believe that proposition 101 is not in the best interests of our country" MR Representative " Oh is that so , I think it's rather good for my community actually " Mr lobby : "Oh could you hold my briefcase.. wink wink nudge nudge" Mr representative : *click click , Drool*" Ah I see what you mean , thank you "
Right now there is no significant demand , Of course the market can be made . I would love a portable video player if they a decent battery life , Laptops and current generation portable video devices simply are not that useful for long stays away from a power outlet , the screens I have seen are fine ( I tend not to mind as they are held rather close , in perspective they seem about as large as a normal TV at a good range ) though .
Long haul flights , lazy days in the garden.,um work if you have your own office and can't use your main computer *cough*,bus trips , train journeys , passengers on a long drive and other things of this nature .
I do believe there is a market , obviously so does apple and iRiver . the iRiver player would have been discontinued if it were not profitable .
currently a niche market , given the right upgrades to the technology it could hit the big time.. also would be lovely if they had TV outs .
Legally i believe it is acceptable I have done it numerous times and did get a friend (who is a lawyer ) to check up on that '(Note: this is in the EU , Germany and the UK specifically ) . The OEM license can be seen to be violating consumer rights , I don't think a business could do it , but a private individual could . Again I'm not 100% on that but considering it is an agreement in which you don't knowingly partake or sign in any real sense it should be non actionable in the UK and Germany
Totally agree . The only real difference would be the support contracts , everything else can be handled by the admin as per a custom install of all that is required .
Cheers It appears that my head it stuck where the sun doesn't shine today . (Normaly I would of double checked that)Though I imagine it is a common misconception so at least it helps clear that one up
Yes I see I made a mistake.. I had made the mistake of associated Trojan with back-doors in my mind . Though it was a question (I did forget the ? though )
Unless they accepted patches from a third party not directly involved in the project , They would need to track down each and every person that had (and acquire their blessing) or each and every code snippet and remove it . This is the same problem which faces the linux Kernel if they wished to move it to the GPL3
I liked the Mclibel case , It was a small sign that it's not just me who would refuse to bend over and accept ""justice"". The press could ride on this story , after all they are primarily interested in scare stories and driving up sales.. And "'Music industry attacks children " does have that ring about it . "Won't someone please think of the children " may be very relevant here.. for the first time in history .
I did think that the McLibel case was the biggest PR disaster a corporation had ever got involved in..http://www.mcspotlight.org/ Well done to the RIAA , they have just managed to out do McDonald's PR disaster . I really did not think they would be that stupid , Even if they win their reputation will be completely destroyed.I do not think any media organisation is going to let up on this one .
"This is already in the regular news sites" Well . because normally people on slashdot are not (Um.. how can i put this politely )"On the same level" as fox news aficionados , so we are likely to miss it out.... as much of a fine reputable unbiased news source as fox is . And stories about Giant animal battles are the stuff of nerd fights.. EG: Star destroyer Vs Enterprise
If we can recreate this virus in a controlled environment and keep it contained whilst studying it then I am all for it . If there are any scientific grounds to the claims that it can be used to help combat a future epidemic that would kill a further 50 million+ then this is a very good idea .
Also If we had the ability to resurrect Hitler , keep him in a lab and experiment on him, find a way to prevent a new Hitler ever taking power.I would not really object to that . Though the scientific grounds for that one are a bit more shaky
" he guarantees I'll beat Shoe after my training session." I don't doubt he could train someone to beat a bunch of loafers , but what about stilettos or Doc-Martins , they can be pretty tough . All he seems to be offering is map tips and a private game for 40 Per hour.. I don't really see how this can be worth the money . Though fair play to him if there are people willing to pay this .
*Disclaimer* I dislike the Recording industry with a passion*disclaimer*
But you are saying that choosing what you put into your own body is somehow worse than infringing on the rights of an artist to make a profit from their hard work .
Apple just made a deal with Intel.. makers of the Xscale . ARM just introduced a chip which can go to 1ghz Perhaps we won't see a vPod any-time soon but the power is there as I imagine a 1ghz Xscale could handle it (on a mobile screen with a dedicated OS)
Perhaps Apple are not out to make a new Video iPod , but a new device called a vPod.. who knows .
I was thinking about this.. its a conundrum indeed . It wouldn't make sense to deliberately cripple OpenGl support (Conspiracy theory : MS has paid them to do it ) as they would just be making their cards look bad in some benchmarks D3D and OpenGL in essence do the same thing and can't really be that different,Cedega seem to be doing rather well redirecting the calls. ATI has OpenGL working quite well on Macs . Nvidia has it working on windows .
So what exactly are ATI up to , and what are their driver programmers doing . I don't really use windows so I don't have experience that area recently but looking at the benchmarks there is something up .
It could be a hardware issue.. but that would not explain the Mac performance

Microsoft Run DMC , Walk this way , or we make you pay .
Remember that the 100M is under rather good conditions .Also 100M can be a rather annoying tether if you have to work 101M + away from your router

It sounds like an Out and out classic virus .
Reminds Me of the Good old days when Viruses did real damage and were not company tools .

For the simple pleasure of saying "I'm really a man PWNZED" ,at the end of a gaming session
Straw that broke the camels back .
This is cannabis we are talking about , not heroine .
