I use 3 browsers, each for a difrent reason. I have on browser with rather liberal settings in the event that i want to see a web animation or view a flash based site etc . Otherwise normaly flash stays off of my main browser , my third setup is for pure security for internet banking etc. This is slightly excesive i do admit , however i ussualy have a very plesurable browsing experiance. Sometimes things like flash are needed( web cartoons and the ilk) so instead of missing out totaly i just keep control of when and if i see it without having to switch around settings all the time
A freind of mine who works in marketing , a wise man , one of the old breed of marketing. He said something to me once and it is the only thing a marketing guy has said to me about his profesion that i have ever agreed with , he said "We are a bunch of arseholes , profesionaly that is".Gave me a good laugh
Cedega does have a full list of games known to work with it,, which perhaps goes a little underadvertisedbut it is invaluable for knowing if its worth the money.. btw i thihnk loki did a version of AOE for native linux(not sure though, perhaps im confusing it with alpha centauri)
This is our struggle , and im sure news storys will apear when we manage to persuade more companys and users to move over in the west. As for the struggle of those in South America , i see they have been doing rather well lately and i raise a glass in cheer of this. I have moved several users over to Unix type OSs such as linux/BSD and even solaris . It takes time but if we each do our part it will keep on going and eventualy we will have an even market share( no monopoly is good, competition keeps the tech alive and interoperability going)

Well , i think the people in those south american countrys probably did notice..
I can not imagine many turning on there pc and going "Aye carumba.. Where is windows"
a copy protected audio CD is a damaged improper CD and if you were to ask phillips they would not let you call it a CD.So them selling a copyprotected CD is false advertising (phillips holds the IP on CD ) so yes it is a violation of consumer rights
I would far rather our consecutive gouvernments say it.I do not care a bit about what some company has to say about the law and my rights.I want to hear the Gouvernments stick up for our rights for once.Though it would be nice to see them with their heads between their legs.
Well an easy soloution would be to have an online shop with a high level of anonimity for the power pills , it works for sex shops and all manners of strange shops alot of people are too embaresed to walk into (*Whistles*) hee. This is why i would like to see an education program initiated maybe a series of TV comericals in the vain of those anti-drug or condom ads/anti-STD(those did work). Its getting the message out which is important , make it a war cry . I loath to compare this to aids but i do so only in the lightest of comparisons. We need to make spam and buying from it a taboo in the same-way that unprotected sex is in todays society, or rather during the heyday of the anti-STD comercials (numbers were cut down immensly). Everyone knows about Aids and the dangerous , but how many people know the problems that spam cause beyond annoyance
This may be the case , i do not know . But if you have any links to evidence to back this up i would be intrested in reading about it. a google search gives no results on slave labour to any large ammount. Yes they do have civil liberty problems and several others , and some cases of slave labour have been recorded (the gouvernment has come down hard on the companys doing this).I may be wrong on this but it sounds like propaganda to me. It is not slave labour to my knowlidge , it is low cost labour .
well it is not really the submitters fautlt or the editors , as well the article says and I quote "Huawei is curently selling EVDO phones for about $130 and WCDMA phones about $250 which is about 30% than everyone else on the market." so... well i imagine from the context its less .
;) i dont know if 3 counts as alot , seriously cedega works well however it will never be a replacment for native games (and some better drivers from certain GPU makers). This is what is required for compatability right now though and the more apps like Quickbooks that work the easier transition becomes and the more linux users there are , when there are more users then we will have more native ports. which will mean more users and games will come to the platform at a faster rate. I own crossover and cedega and can highly recomend them for crossplatform support , as i said it is not as ideal as native ports but its a good start
I am shocked this has not been done before , i think it is the definition of ingenius,, so simple yet so brilliant. an online serachable library that you can pick and choose from on the train or in the park. The way mobile phones are heading with increased screen size and memory not to forget the dropping costs it is only natural that it swallows the Ebook market. The only problem i would have with this would be if i were not able to back up the books to my computer , though that may not be an issue if it has open librarys
Have a little more faith,I do not know what its like in America , however over here all it ussualy requires is sitting down with people and explaining things to them , the vast majority of people will learn if taught in the right way. In 3rd world countrys its far eassier , as spam is not a problem because the internet is not as wide spread and 99% of the spam is from american companys unless your a nigerian prince that is. First of all , education is the only real long term soloution, that does not mean that short term soloutions such as securing software , sueing spammers and blocking abusive conections will not help , but it is only short term as it is an arms race and both sides develop more complex evasion and attack techniques. The only true way to demolish spam is to kill the profit by stoping sales dead. We do this by persuading people not to buy and to be more carefull.
I prefer to see it laying in education . I do agree though that ISPs taking some action is perhaps the best short term soloution , But the only real long term soloution is Educating the masses about some basics. !: dont run root/admin unless you need to !: dont buy from spam !: Dont click yes without reading
Now one of the many reason Unix bases OSs are more secure is that as i see it the average users will have more education in the IT field(before or after , as it will always require some reading) so are less likely to fall for daft emails with attachments or stupid pops ups with "click yes" from odd websites.
no argument its a good start , however it would be nice if they would
1: make sure active X is patched to make it far more secure.(killing it would be nice , but wont hapen for a while due to a hell of alot of websites using controlls) 2: make sure each user knows that they should not be running as an admin all the time and allow them an easy way to become and admin for installs etc 3: a large list of phising techniques and how they spoof browsers is easily avaliable and could be use to create a few fixes (all browser makers should do this)... In my mind the only way to stop spam properly is education , people need to learn to not accept it and not to buy from it.couples this with some basic computer security knowlidge(dont open LOVEYOU.jpg.VIRUS.WORM) and i assure you it would reduce spam far more in one year than 10 years of legal action
This is the point , Gates is throwing Millions to stop these spammers yet what is MS doing to plug the holes that are creating these zombie nets.Sure they are patching , but when the average windows user is running as an Admin with a browser with holes the size of a small country, disaster is soon to follow. I have infact (due to these people not having the funds to buy a new computer or the will, familly mainly) installed a rather nice custom debian install on several peoples computers , a bit of tweaking to KDE and it can be incredibly easy to use if all you require is Email , HTML , small time office work.auto mounting CDs and DVDs playing with a single click large button on the desktop.
If you like java then you shouldnt , however if you prefer python you should use that. This is not about converting everyone to python , its about having another tool in the shed.Another Choice for the developers.Javas dominance in the market is because it is a good language , however it is not perfect for everything. Python gives us this open option , and it already has many years of experiance behind it.So fair enough do not use it , but this is not about converting everyone , only some who see the advantage
