Yes , but i dont see where the pains will come from .
VS 2 and VS 3 will be fully compatible and i know the license allows for duel licensing (ala trolltech)
So the worst thing to hapen as i see it, will be the code having to be released as GPL2 and GPL3 code at the same time , and i know for a fact they will be compatible license
Perhaps im missunderstanding the situation , but i see this as a pure storm in the teacup

As this poster states , the clause in the license allows us to avoid any situation such as this and secures the copyleft .
However if said did hapen (which i strongly doubt) the only thing to occur would be the license would become more BSD license like allowing people to use the code with your supposed vs 10 for closed source projects

I doubt we will see any unplesant forking ,The license must evolve just as the software does .
If we didnt patch the linux kernel and left security holes in it we would have alot of massive problems , the license is like any other code(all be it legal code) bugs will arise and it will need to grow to support new platforms and new inovations .
Thus the clause in the license that the parent states gives the backwards and forwards compatibility if you want it .
    unplesant forking will rarely occur

Im sure we will have plenty of people harp on about how XPDF is faster(which it is) or how the adobe reader is not compact , or how it has more bloat than a whale. The fact still remains that it renders PDFs excelently and it is another product for the linux world .

OSS is about freedom and our right to choose what we run.
Every port to linux or BSD or one of the other alternat Operating systems is a major victory for freedom of choise. As much as i respect RMS and his iron stance on GNU everything , i have to disagree and say we also need to allow people to decide how they want there product licensed.

with Adobe finaly updating the antiquated reader , its just one more sign linux is gaining a stronger foothold in the desktop market, Now i may really dislike windows though i dont want to see it vanish , i want to see all products having an equal(or near enough) market share ,.
Let us hope we soon see photoshop on linux , the gimp is cool but right now linux really needs a program in that class with a little more omph .

Its the freedom to decide if you want to run comercial or OSS
And the freedom to decide if you want to sacrafice a bit of HDD space and RAM space for frankly better PDF rendering(right now atleast , the xpdf team are doing a great job)

Though first im getting a Nintendo DS as it just has more portable titles, I dont see the PSP as being direct competition right now as the games its offering are far closer to the home systems than to mobile games.
This is hopefully a lesson sony will learn , as we have seen the gameboy and kin come up against technicaly superior products before
