although I can't figure out what Linus would learn by using Windows or MacOS. He deals with stuff that's low level enough that all useful information (other than performance issues) are in docs and source code. I wouldn't envy the job of learning memory management by running Windows.
I just got back from Punta Cana, and they denied the lady in front of me's 151 because it was flammible. They let me get my rum through, but then, it was anejo, and couldn't be used to fuel a combustion engine...
No Way! I just left there. Great place! Their airport rocks. It's all open air, friendly staff. Be warned, lots of people try port your luggage for money. Do it yourself.
All of this is a complete waste of time though. When did Open Source simply become a way to avoid paying for Windows?
I think Open Source was more a way of having access to your materials the way you need to. Chances are if you want to read/write an NTFS partition, you've got a machine running Windows, or accessing something that Windows has been working with.
it sets a dangerous precedent. What's the difference between making the information unavailable, and revising it to "reflect" the current state of the world? Which is more dangerous?
The reason behind it doesn't matter. It's the act of doing it which draws our ire. Alteration through deletion is still alteration. Read 1984 and pay attention to how the government changes the memory of the people through media. Don't let things like this be the thin-end of a wedge.
I think most of this type of activity is typically done with a sound daemon, isn't it? The sound daemon maintains absolute control of the sound device, and then it maintains responsibility for mixing the sounds in software, and sending it to the device. I could be wrong, though.
Hey man, don't get discouraged. I'm thinking about doing the same thing here. I'm going tonight to talk to some other professionals in my area about this to see if I can get the ball rolling. I'm with you in that I'd like to see their curriculum, if there is one.

you say that like it's a bad thing?

welcome to Slashdot, where a rhetorical question gets answered at least three times and flamed once.

Today, in the developed world, we do not worry about electricity and water services being available.
Maybe he didn't get the memo?
hmmm...good point. The main page says RIP, so it's probably just the char, like you said. Excelent write though, on the previous post :)
you're kidding! I never know what to believe on that place, or this one, either. Is there a link to the obit?
with as much as I know about computers, I think I'd rather walk, thanks very much.
as soon as he references it directly, it exists in his world, and he can't have that.
astroturfing is only the fake zealicy. Most of the people here on slashdot are actually that hyped up about...whatever the fad of the moment is.
where-as in OH, driving in the left lane is so frequent, it begins to resemble Britain.

>there is no "spiritual" side to hacking, as there is in the martial arts
I know several individuals who would disagree strongly with you on that.
>the martial arts were designed for defense, whereas cracking emphasizes offensive skills.
Where as network intrusion detection and hardening are designed for what?
