Shit the fucking homemade pressure cooker bomb from the Boston bombers is being prosecuted as a WMD. I guess Iraq did have WMD after all. Absurd shit devalues our values and laws.
While most can't or shouldn't afford this, there will still be at least 70 million people who can easily afford this if they chose (the top 1% of wealthy humans). It's a HUGE market.
duplicating is critical for science...but I could understand if the NSF wants to focus on novel experiments/research, and leave the duplicating to other organizations who's interest has been peaked. The national security stuff is BS. Having a strong research culture and scientific knowledge is critical to our national security.
Why not have a 2nd email account that you use for travel confirmations, bookings, etc. that you can share if needed while protecting your true email account?
i like how Israel uses a human approach to security, and doesn't just radiate us to death for security theater purposes like the TSA.
I'm often surprised how little engineers know about investing and business in general. Engineers often take a very middle class, employee mindset, and fail to see the business and investment opportunities around them.
The world is not as you say only because you wish it to be so. I doubt that any of us would work our asses off and risk everything to promote commerce or to support a bunch of other people who are looking for jobs. It's all about making money and improving our lives...or furthering our agenda (whether political, environmental, etc.)
in the business world, there is value in pulling together existing technologies and providing a useful service. no one is claiming the kid is an Einstein. just that he created something useful. something that yahoo may have been trying to do themselves for awhile.
anyways, even if you just chalk the sale up to $30M of advertising/branding publicity, there's value in that too. Message: "we are expanding, adding new tech, getting cutting edge, we are a hip cool place to work or to pitch your start up tech"
funny how you guys talk about the price of 3rd party software being the problem. I can't justify upgrading if I've got to pay $200/$300 for a windows license. It's just not worth it when XP is working fine for the rare case when I need to run a Windows app. Then again, I wouldn't upgrade to Win8 if they offered it for free.
I get that there may be low selection pressure. Are they claiming that there's also a slower rate of genetic drift? That would be interesting. I just assumed that drift would happen similarly across species, perhaps with some minor variation for body temp, metabolism, habitat (i.e. radiation exposure), etc.
Is this the Google Glass ACCESSORY PACK?! Wahooo
it says it can only fly for 10 to 15 min because its wing joints wear out and break apart after that.

Ha..."cause freedom is another word for nothing left to lose"
It's not about Pianos. You're missing the point. A gun could be lying on anything. That is why I don't keep anything in my house.
more like: Pulls trigger. Nothing. Turns gun sideways to get a closer look at a why it failed. Pulls trigger again. BAM.
nobody uses the 405 anymore...it's just too crowded. ;P
with too much money in the area would give $50K you would probably very quickly hit tens of millions of $$

he will continue to drone on about this point until the drones regulate drones.
it could be easily assembled by a robot...rather than design the robot around a human table building design.
could have caused some serious damage.

so many of the posts will be signed with anonymous coward
hey, it would be nice as a misinformation site...or better yet...a honey pot for law enforcement online accounts/personas
Cause u know how cool it would be to have Galaxy III satellites.

I guess if they want to burn you in politics, they will find a way...no matter how ass backwards.
I usually disagree with the stooges who ask why stuff of legal or societal interest is on slashdot, but why is this on slashdot?
