Someone doesn't want to work more than 40 hours then they shouldn't. That's their choice.
you act like it's alway a choice. you also seem to see things as black and white. sounds like you are young and healthy and have no responsibility beyond yourself.
i specifically referenced people who can not work 40 hrs or 80 hrs or 120 hrs or what ever specific number of hours they might need to work to make enough to make ends meet. i know i couldn't work more than 40-50 hrs a week regardless of my will due to health problems that were no fault of my own.
If you want people to be reasonably comfortable and secure in their lives then stop making them victims, remove the incentives that keep them from doing more for themselves
Yes, exactly, this is the idea behind government minimum wages...stop making them victims of corporations, of capitalism, and of the wealthy.
Whatev $15/hr in 2020 is like $8/hr in 1995. Think about how much you made back then. Did you think you were killing it making $8/hr in 1995? Doubt it.
It's just a bit better than keeping pace with inflation.
FYI...minimum wage was $4.25 back in 1995 but it wasn't hard to make $6/hr even at fast food.
1) we all suffer when employees underpay workers to maximize profits because we, as tax payers, are subsidizing their low wages through food stamps, welfare, social services, grants, loan assistance, housing assistance, healthcare, etc. 2) it's not always possible to work enough hours to make enough money...there's only so many hours in the week. especially for people with health problem or kids, there's a limit and it's probably not much more than 40 hrs.
Lastly, I don't want to live in a society that's full of poor people. I want most people to be reasonably comfortable and secure in their lives.
I'd rather pay $200/yr tax for infrastructure or something fixed like this than feel like I'm running a tax meter every time I get in my car. I bet a whole lot of people would prefer to do the same. I know, it will never happen, this is socialism at it's worst!
why can't they roll it up as a flat rate into state/fed taxes and remove the tax on gas? no one wants to be tracked...or feel like they get taxed every time they get in their car.
we all use the roads. even if we don't use them directly, we get mail, we purchase stuff that has been shipped to stores and our homes, we benefit from fire/police services that use roads etc...and more abstractly, we hold jobs that exist largely because we have a efficient economy with good transport of goods.
Also their ecosystem is very important to their success, and it would be much harder to rapidly grow an ecosystem with $1K+ TVs that are replaced every 10 yrs rather than a $100 smart box that can be added to each TV in the house and replaced at minimum cost as needed.
Well, you can just resell your purchased item to a third party and then they are no longer beholden to any original agreements. Oh, wait, you're not a corporation? Never mind.
we started calling our $3,000 Makerbot the Breakerbot, after it stopped working a few months after purchasing it and Makerbot support failed to return our calls or emails...for the support plan we paid for.
to their credit, and much to our surprise, they finally responded to our requests about 6 months later and promptly fixed it. maybe it was the new CEO.
their thingiverse.com site is pretty cool. and their software is mostly stable/usable.
Agreed. And what makes it more egregious is it seems like she offered very reasonable, practical alternatives to being tracked 24/7 but they were rebuffed without compromise. And at the same time, no business need existed, or was articulated, for this tracking. And at the same time, it appears the tracking was abused, as an employee was MONITORING her outside of justifiable business needs...which is quite different than just collecting information passively. So it looks like they'll pay...as they should.
and they ARE selling to auto manufacturers that are either going to buy out these companies or use them as suppliers. it takes many years to get these pipelines and product designs in place.
and they ARE selling to the military, which is in the process of buying an increasingly large number of UGVs

Whoa, we could all be millionaires!!
There's two problems with this logic:
1) we all suffer when employees underpay workers to maximize profits because we, as tax payers, are subsidizing their low wages through food stamps, welfare, social services, grants, loan assistance, housing assistance, healthcare, etc.

People are Corporations too!

yes. tell us. but keep your distance.
perhaps you would prefer to see Uranus dancing with the stars?
many 3d printers are designed with 3d-printable parts so that a printer can make a printer.
reprap
it's a neat trick and a cool way for a hobbyist to make a couple of printers, but it's way way faster to manufacture higher quality printer parts.

you might not want to re-start after a crash.
i think the market will decide to make just one type. the type with windows.
my house doesn't go anywhere at all. it just sits there all day! no need for windows!!

Not being ABLE to talk to Comcast...because you're modem is taking up the phone line...PRICELESS?
Nah, the average Californian might be something like 1 out of 12.
i hope the cars weren't texting while they were driving. multi-tasking while driving is dangerous!

I'm not being ideological about it. I was really excited to get it. Paired it with a brand new high end gaming rig.
Just disappointed. After a few hours of using it, I put it away with a bit of sadness.
If there was no hype about it, I'd say it's interesting and might be cool at some point in the future.
But with all the hype out there...it's just far from living up to it. In my opinion.
It's hard to match up billing codes with actual work because the billing code generator occasionally uses a different random seed.
only $275 bc it is a placebo. you get off easy this time.
