    You're only getting 8GB from Apple for $200. There was already 8GB in the machine.
    Amazon has 16GB listed for $95.

    Anyways, the real problem is not the Apple pricing. It's that it's not user upgradable.

    Tell that to the many boards of educations that have tried to prevent science from being taught in our education system. These efforts in lunacy are often only prevented at the last minute by a large number of people in the community coming together and dedicating themselves to the issue. So yea, it's kind of like saying, "why is everyone so obsessed with keeping the kitchen clean...it's not like we have bugs or anything".

    The only resources the US has been taking are those of our citizens...and redistributing them in Afganistan and Iraq. If it was the other way around, we'd be getting rich here in the US...instead we're spending all our resources on roads, bribes, construction, keeping of the peace, and other measures abroad.

    The sequencing is $1K; but the interpretation and analysis of these genes will rely on large datasets and advanced, patented algorithms and methods...so in the total cost calc...the $1K will actually be the cheap part. Much like computer hardware is a commodity with razor thin margins but software/consulting are expensive with high margins.

    DARPA isn't the one to make this happen. They try to show that something is plausible...and they get the requisite people working with each other and exploring technology. They expect industry or the DoD to make it happen after DARPA's $3.5M feasibility study has ended.

  15. How much of what we export is stuff that we MAKE...versus stuff that we design here but produce elsewhere (i.e. Apple) or resources such as wood/steel/coal? We don't have the education system in place to develop a skill manufacturing sector in the way that other countries (i.e. Germany) do.
