    In the US, most public universities cost around $10K/yr. Hardly the $250K figure cited above. Of course, many students CHOOSE to go to more expensive private our out of state schools where they can pay up to $40K/yr in tuition, but that's their choice, not a requirement. Furthermore, many college students chose to attend universities far away from their homes so they may include living costs to the cost per year estimate. Again, this is a choice for many students.

    I'm not saying costs shouldn't go down. They should. But I think many of us can get a good university education for much less than $100K total.

    You didn't make it clear that she was receiving these bogus requests through the Facebook messaging system. That's a different story. Your original comment implied that she was receiving emails that were trying to spoof official Facebook emails.

    I have my next gen console in my pocket and on my coffee table. My iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are my next gen game consoles. If I want to use my TV I can link it up to Apple TV and take advantage of gyros and accelerometers and touch inputs for my controller.

    FYI...

    In Georgia, the HOPE scholarship (>=3.0 HS GPA), which 99+% students receive at the major state schools allows you to go to University for FREE! No tuition. No fees. Subsidized books/supplies.

    I managed to get through 4 yrs of college living away from home on less than $50K living expenses (which my parents paid) and NO University expenses. Could have gone for free if I lived at home. ...more states should make college free!

    Apple's iPhone has done translations for a long time. There's a google app for that. Works the same as on Android.

    But you're missing the point. The speech recognition is not even handled by Siri or Apple. It's contracted out to Nuance.

    Its the intelligence behind it all that was DARPA funded ($150M).

    Actually that's been on the iPhone since the 3G. It's called Dragon Dictate.

    Siri's more than voice recognition or voice command. There's some context tracking and intelligence behind it all.

    If we had to ask people to do the kind of stuff we ask Siri to do, we'd expect a certain failure rate from not hearing the utterance, not understanding the utterance, missing context, or inability to perform the task. The real question is how will Siri perform relative to this imperfect human equivalent.

    ...and the government labels every foreign student from an Asian or Middle East country as a potential terrorist/spy just because they apply for grad school, work, or research with a professor, university, or company that does work that may or may not lead back to the DoD.     Problem is when you have only 2GB of RAM and your OS takes up 1GB and your browser takes another 700MB. You've got very little RAM left for multitasking.

    Yes, but the point is that it will add another 20mph the next month and so on in a cumulative fashion...and light speeds the limit (in theory)...and it could be combined with other propulsion tech such as ion energy or gravity assists.

    Still...doctors don't need to be starting at $200-300K and making up to $1 Million with experience.

    Pay them a solid wage, say $150K for primary care and $200K for specialists.

    Pay for their med school tuition if they graduate and go on to practice med to prevent them from demanding high salaries as a function of the debt they've take on.
