  2. Defining AI on The Future of Nanobiotech Predicted · · Score: 1

    I doubt we'll ever have real artificial intelligence anytime soon, if we're smart enough anyways. Mostly because to create a real AI, you need to give it a purpose or reason to survive... think about how life itself works in general. Survival instincts precipitate change. If we do indeed create real AI, it might turn into something out of the matrix. Just we won't be living in some silly dreamworld. We'll probably just cease to exist because we're horribly inefficient anyways.

    What do you think human judges do anyways? Also with past case bias. The only thing that i can see as a problem will be seeing if the prosecutor or defendant is lying. I guess we'll still have use for the old court... fraud cases. ^^;

    It's kinda getting to the point where google might not be competing with MS, but instead, slaughtering it. 0_o They have massive storage of data already via the search engine. Massive storage of personal data via google maps and gmail and now they're setting up to split up the internet by providing their own peer network. ( my guess anyways ) stay true google.

    I think the whole standing concept is so they people don't play for too long and get cramps/bad posture and whatnot. Keeps them moving around and active. Also helps stop hogging of machines. If they want to sit down or eat, they move over to the dining area and grab a snack.

  22. Different programs for different tasks... on Dvorak on 'Rinky-Dink' Software Rant · · Score: 3, Insightful

    This is a good example of why some programs are better for certain tasks as others. From experience, I rarely use photoshop for simple tasks like cropping or resizing. Small things like that tend to be used in Paint Shop Pro, mostly because it takes a split second to load compared to photoshop. However, if I want to do long-term image manipulation; photoshop, gimp, and open canvas are normally my choice ( in that order ). If i'm working on something that involves drawings or painted art, I tend to use Open Canvas. IMHO Photoshop is becoming somewhat bloated with plugins and useless features.
