My biggest complaint with the installer is that there's no back button. If you screw up choosing an option you have to reboot and start over from the beginning. Hopefully the new installer will fix that.
we need java to be open source, so we can fix all the flaws he left in it. i mean, no goto?!
response:
goto statements in Java are virtually useless. There are other, better ways to accomplish anything a goto statement would be used for in Java (break and continue come to mind Remember, Java is not C or C++.
I think that you forgot to import com.reallife.humour.sarcasm.
That depends on your graphics card. I have a Matrox Parhelia with two monitors and I can use Photoshop on both. I can expand a window to one monitor of both of them. I use Photoshop on both windows and it works well for me. Same thing with Premiere, it looks great on two monitors with my tools and timeline on one and my edit windows on the other.
I thought that 16-bit per channel support was added in CinePaint and was going to be merged back into the Gimp trunk. Does anyone know anything about that?
MHz != million instructions per second, it means simply "cycles per second".
Yes, I'm very well aware of that. I also did not say anything to that effect nor imply that. What I did say was that when the poster said MIPS he probably wasn't talking about the MIPS processor but instead was talking about million instructions per second.
If the poster did mean the latter then I was saying that he probably meant to say MHz. The reason being is that most people without a clue but with money focus on MHz as a determination of whether a machine is fast enough rather on other factors, such as running benchmarks as you suggest. These same clueless people most likely wouldn't know what MIPS is in either of the two forms I mentioned.
So if all that is true, then I agree with what I thought the poster was trying to say: The sooner people realize that MHz isn't that relevant the better. There are a lot of other variables in making a decision on whether you have the best machine for the job.
Talk to a doctor right away. If your hands are going numb and shaking then you need a qualified physician to look at them. Also, JWZ has some good information about RSI.
The best solution I've found to solve problems with email addresses online is Jodrell's mailto php script which renders the address obfuscated but displays it correctly in the browser using JavaScript.
That's assuming that address harvesters aren't running their pages through a javascript interpreter first. Considering how sophisticated spammers' methods are becoming to deliver their messages I wouldn't doubt that their havesting methods are improving as well.
The GIMP? The name of some poor bastard imprisoned in a box, zipped up in filthy leather from head to toe, tortured for months until he loses his mind and identifies with his torturers?
Huh? That isn't what it means. Here's the definition most people think of:
gimp
n : disability of walking due to crippling of the legs or feet
[syn: lameness, limping, gimpiness, gameness, claudication]
Oh, don't get me wrong. I do. And I see where you are coming from. I think Gimp is kick ass and I say that as a user of PhotoShop since the 2.0 days. But out here in bizarro world (San Francisco bay area) you can't fart without offending someone. So many people out here are hyper-sensitive and focused on being politically correct. These are the same people who say waitperson instead of waitress. Sure there are a lot of people here who don't care. But when I deal with businesses, which I most often do, when I say "The Gimp" they look at me like I'm an alien.
Although I'd love to help correct the politically correct problem out here, I don't feel this situation is the right place for me to do it. Getting people to use free software is a higher priority for me. Therefore, I apologize up front about the name and then do my best to convince people to try the software.
Good point. I'd like to add that this should be applied to program names as well. I have found through personal experience that it's extremely difficult to convince people to use The Gimp due to the name. It has a negative connotation associated with it and many people find it offensive. They look at me as if I said it was called The Retard or something to that effect. There are other folks who just see it as good free software and don't care about the name. But in my experience they are definitely in the minority. I've reached the point now where I always apologize before I tell them the name.
Everything is copyrighted. The important thing is do you have permission to access the copyrighted work. That's a determination that this software can't make.
Maybe we could tell you about alternatives if you'd detail exactly what it is that LBI files do. Saying that it's a library file doesn't mean much. Does that mean it's a DLL? What exactly is the problem that you are trying to solve?

Aren't wavelets still encumbered by patents?
Mob logging? Is that when your site gets slashdotted and apache is writing to the log files as fast as it can?

I think he means Millions of Instructions Per Second and probably meant to say that people need to learn that MHz isn't everything.
Now I can show everyone just what intercal is capable of!

Peg: Al, do these pants make me look fat?
Al: No. Your fat makes you look fat.
I ask as a non-Mac user but someone who will be buying a Mac laptop in the next 12-18 months.
Ahh, I knew someone from Microsoft's PR department was reading Slashdot. Now I know they post, too. :-)
No he didn't. Testing is usually more broken than unstable. Testing is only in good shape now because Debian is near a release.

I'll be sure to print this out and xerox it for my friends in the office.
That's planned for v2.0.
will it say "Bede bede bede..." when it hands you the beer?
