  3. Value of Podcasting on Tricks of the Podcasting Masters · · Score: 1

I've found that Podcasting is ONLY valuable to time shift or location shift things. I deal with a podcast that delivers the messages of our church to the web. For all I know I may be the only one subscribed. However, it's these kind of circumstances that really bring podcasting out.

If I was to start a podcast, I would have to think about what kinds of things would I be competant to talk about. Think about a radio show people would listen to. Would they listen to an uninteresting person talking about the finer points of string theory or someone interesting and competant in computing.

To answer this question without concepts of "God given" rights would not be acceptable in my worldview. My worldview includes a God so there can be "God given" rights. Of course, that means that we don't merely have a might means right type of ethic. The implications of this ethic creates a whole different set of things.

  6. Solution on How Can Tech Help Fight Education Costs? · · Score: 1

I've been around some rural schools that have done school 4 days a week. This means students go to school longer Monday-Thursday and always have a 3 day week end. This would help with saving transportation costs for all schools. However, it would cause problems with babysitting for parents, etc.

Over all this type of school schedule seems to work best for most rural and some suburban areas. Most farm towns enjoy it because that's 3 days that the farmer's kid can drive the tractor.

Of course, no homeschooling is a great way to teach children. I'd imagine that most people here have at least as good of an education as the teachers. Of course, the average person could easily know the material for primary schools. However, the downside is many homeschooled kids aren't pushed to really work at school. I know people that would have hardly passed 9th grade, but some how managed to pass homeschooling. My wife and I have discussed homeschool our children. However, I refuse to have children that can't spell, write or can't pass high school math.

  7. Free WiFi no problem on The Case for Free WiFi? · · Score: 1

Coffee shops always have people in them for long periods of times. That's what they are designed for. Why would they put comfortable chairs and couches in them? This isn't the fast food or fast coffee starbucks. Also, most coffee places don't make the majority of their money on people who come in to chill and drink coffee. Most money comes in from people that need their morning coffee. They are on their way in the morning to work.

Yes the WiFi can be abused. However, if you can facilitate an increase in people WiFi in coffee shops is great. The average person will buy a drink or two while they are there. There will always be someone to try to work the system. Just remember, businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone at any time. You just make sure that your baristas look for those types and confront them. They either will spend some money on coffee or leave. If asked a few times those customers typically will not come back.

  11. Why Dare doesn't work. on Has D.A.R.E Been Effective? · · Score: 1

I was in the DARE program in 5th. There are many flaws in such a program. Most 5th graders in my class at the time said "No, I'll never do drugs", but people grow up and change. I don't think that DARE would work, even if you made kids go through it until you are out of high school. I think that parent involvement is a biggie. I know I had parents who I could share almost anything with. The parents need to be involved with their kids.

In all actuality, I haven't done drugs after health 1 class at my high school. Considering we did in depth studies on drug use and what they do to your body I decided I didn't need that stuff.

That's just my 2 cents on why Dare doesn't work

  12. Well, I see technology killing all occupations on Is Technology Killing Leisure Time? · · Score: 1

I work in the tech field and find that my leisure time is spent often at work. I sometimes get so involved with computer work, I skip breaks take short lunches all off the clock. Although, there are many times that I'm just sitting there browsing the web during work hours. Also, since I'm not married and still live at home, I've found that my father often has decreased leisure time because of technology. As an local administrator for a state department, he often receives calls off the normal work hour from the administrator over the entire state. He also does business on his cell phone while travelling on vacation and other days off. In many cases I can see that technology is providing less leisure time and more work time. I think that as employees we need to be stick up for our leisure time.

Yes and the sound card, processor, ram, hard drive, motherboard all have vital roles in the creation and distribution of pirated music. Why don't they go after that too.
