From TFA:"Others indicted are from the US, Estonia, China, and Belarus".
Yeah, good luck with that. I'm sure those countries will have no problem handing people over.
from the FTA: Buffer overflows that enabled hackers to exploit the Aurigma ActiveX image uploading software used by social networking sites were at the heart of the assault.
<plumber>Well that's your problem right there!</plumber>
Listen up! Are you listening? There are 2,500 music fans out there that are willing to pay $300 for the product you are trying to peddle. Does that sound like a dying market? It doesn't to me. Please give your customers what they want and they'll be willing to give you money.
Sincerely,
PseudoLogic
P.S.: Treat your artists respectfully as well, your customers care about them.
There has been ads for the Iron Key running on Slashdot for some time (though they're not up today). I guess I'm feeling a bit cynical today.
Why would you post this article?

Is AMD Dead Yet?

As an AMD stock holder I would like to send a big FUCK YOU to theregister and kdawson for regurgitating a 2 year old article to make people more nervous than they already are about AMD stock.
Skimming through the headlines for the day, I honestly read this article as "Strict water boarding would get planes in the sky faster." Sadly, I didn't even flinch and went to read the Chemistry article first instead.
From the "E-Meter" wikipedia link in the summary:
"In 1958 when Scientologists Don Breeding and Joe Wallis developed a modified, smaller battery-operated version, which they presented to Hubbard, he again used it. This was christened the Hubbard electrometer. Hubbard patented it on December 6, 1966, as a "Device for Measuring and Indicating Changes in the Resistance of a Human Body" (U.S. Patent 3,290,589 ). The patent is now expired and in the public domain. The Church of Scientology continues to make, sell, and teach its use in auditing."
So if the E-Meter is in the public domain, how can they control who resells them?
Sorry for the offtopic, but what does this tag mean? Isn't it necessary for more than one person to use the same tag for it to show up? So I'm guessing it's not a typo.
You already got the pity points with your print link, you didn't need to quote the article out of context also.
This is what the article says:
Likewise, Natalie Portman -- beloved of geek fanboys worldwide since long before her Star Wars turns -- is an accomplished psychology student with two published papers under her belt, but psych isn't strictly a science or tech pursuit. (Waaahbulances will please park in the designated Comments section.) So, she's not a geek, but a geek favorite and the article pointed her out as such.
Now go park your waaahmbulance!
Echoing other comments, my first impression was "WHAT? Most people don't know what they want to be at that age!" but on further reflection it's quite similar to what I went through. Though born american, I grew up in Spain (that small country over there) and went to a spanish High School. Our second year of HS we had to decide between 4 choices: Letras (literally Letters, equivalent to Humanities) both pure and mixed (with Sciences), and Ciencias (Sciences), pure and mixed. All tracks had common classes to help develop a varied background (Latin, Philosophy, etc.) while still channeling the interests of the student.
Thank you Sir. This is exactly the product that I've been looking for. One question I have though is that the product page doesn't list mapping software in the package. What software are you using it with? Google maps maybe? Thanks.
Senator Stevens, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
These days, AMD is the singlemost important chip maker on the planet, second only to Intel.
If you want your comments to be taken seriously, and not come across as an AMD fanboy, don't use sentences like these that don't make any sense. If AMD is the singlemost important chip on the planet, it's not second to anybody.
Disclaimer: I'm an AMD fanboy, I have never used an Intel product in my life.

Very interesting commentary. Having had several friends which I considered insane audiophiles ($10,000 for a set of Nakamichi speakers, WHAAAA?!?!) I never knew the reality of the situation till I read this article referrenced by Gizmodo:

Sadly, the Magna Doodle has gone the way of the Dodo. Fisher-Price now manufactures an "improved" version called the Doodle Pro. http://www.fisher-price.com/us/products/product.as p?id=28861

I'm sorry, but a gamer will never reach those heights of absurdity.
