    Mod parent up!

I would like to add a few points:

-fear of what happened after "perestroyka" in a name of democracy (USSR collapse, local wars, hyperinflation, poverty, corruption to name a few)
-those opposition leaders are no better than guys in power - they want to get to the feeder, or the a fed from US, or they are fed by current powers to show how crazy opposition is.
-real democracy currently works only in a few small European countries with very educated (on average) population. In Russia fair elections and free (means controlled by big businesses) media will result in Special Olympics game of shit-throwing, so every candidate will be in deep shit and the one who will promise more free money to old people and throw more quality shit on the opponents will win.

Some of the people who were on the streets in Russia lately do not want to change Putin for somebody, just want him to behave in a manner expected from elected president and not get too self confident

I'm Russian living abroad for long time, I get my information from different sources. I do not know this "opposition leader" who gave this interview, do not understand why his opinion matters, especially to the nerds.

It does not break once installed, and I will not have to reinstall it every 2 month because of malware. What I wish for is debian with all codecs etc initially installed, and with ability to do full system upgrade to a fresh version once a year or so, easy way. And UI should not change drastically with the updates!

It's done! With any fresh user friendly distro you install apps with GUI app from repository - easier than in Windows, X performs OK under the load, all power management functions works out the box on most laptops, configuration changes are as easy as in Windows - same control panel. basically.

I've installed debian squeeze on some of my mates laptops, they are mostly happy. Main downside is that there is no photoshop - see, we Russians are mostly unaware that photoshop is not free. Debian is great because it does not update much so it does not break with the updates, downside is the same - squeeze is outdated. So I guess what most users need are something like debian, but with optional full system update once a year to a fresh version, and with MATE or similar familiar and easy to use desktop. And without empasis on free as in freedom - i.e. firefox, not iceweasel, all codecs installed, etc. And contary to local beliefs - by my experience most people don’t care much about eyecandy.

I'm on large government owned ISP and I have no problems reaching .ge sites, same ISP providing me with digital TV, with CNN and BBC news amongst the channels. I mast say I see much more viewer manipulating on CNN than on russian news channels, I might suggest http://www.russiatoday.ru/ as information source, if anybody is interested in whats going on there. Every news channel is trying to show the facts in some light, but CNN just shows only the facts they need, CNN is a serious brainwash. I'm living in Russia for like a month in a year, traveling other 11 months, so don't call me brainwashed by Russian TV - I'm getting my news from very different sources.

I've seen on Russian TV that Georgia blocked access to .ru domains and blocked all Russian channels, not sure if it's indeed true, any people from Georgia here can clarify this?

For me (and I beleive many Russians feel the same) it's a sad turn of events indeed, because historically we always were friends, Georgia was in Russian empire then in USSR for like more than 200 years, and it was not joined by force, but because we are same faith, and Russia protected Georgia from Pessians and Turks. Georgians took a part in what is now Russian and USSR history, Georgians can be proud or ashamed of that history no less then Russians - many prominent people were Georgians, Stalin is the most known. And now Georgia have crazy pseudo democratic president Saakashvili, clearly installed there and ruled from US, who is confronting Russia in all possible ways!

I did the same buying for 5 pounds couple of days ago, and this was second legally purchased music album in my life (not counting gifts made and received). First was Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - I used to love this album AND it comes with rather funny booklet :) See I'm Russian, I used to buy copied cassettes in early 90'th, then CD's for 2 dollars, then just downloading music - if you know where to search you can always find album you need in lossless format and with scanned covers. Currently I earn enough and could buy CD's of music that I like if I'd want to, but download in lossless is the most convenient way for me, as I do not like having tons of CD's laying around in the piles :) And i do not have any moral issues about downloading anything whatsoever.

So I want to say to Radiohead - truly magic music, good thinking about distribution, but please next time do me a favor, offer download in lossless format.
