Here is a species part way between fish and land animal. Archaeopterix is a pretty famous example of a transition between a land animal and a bird. These links will give you information about various fossils showing the transition between ape-like animals and modern humans.

I don't think so. None of the AP classes are very popular, and the only students I know who take the BC exam do it in their own time, without being formally taught. It's the same with our AP physics class, and we only had about 15 students in our AP chemistry class by the end of the year. We have a ridiculous number of clubs at our school, but none of them actually need any money, and if they do they have to raise it themselves. Basically, to have a club, you just need a few students to get together and get a teacher to support them.

Wow, I wish I was in your school district.

In my AP chemistry class, the most dangerous thing we've done is heat a solution with a bunsen burner. The teachers aren't even allowed to have mercury in a sealed container in a locked room in case somebody steals it and breaks it open or something. I remember doing a lab that involved burning a peanut in grade nine but it turned out the teacher wasn't actually allowed to do that lab because of a risk that somebody in the class might be allergic to peanuts and somehow not know it yet. We barely do any labs because there is so much fear (and it's probably justified) that if the slightest thing goes wrong the school will be sued. There's also a budget problem. Half our equipment is broken and our school doesn't have the money to replace it. This isn't just a problem in the United States. I live in Canada.

My school is also more serious about math and science than other schools in the district. We're one of the few schools in the district with an AP program, almost half of the students seem to take calculus (and math after grade 11 is optional), and we have a fairly successful math team. Our math team even has uniforms.

Most people I know here either have immigrated themselves to Canada, or their families have immigrated to Canada within the last few generations, so I would assume most people I know are either in favour or indifferent to immigration. It's not something that I hear people talking about, however, and I live in Vancouver, which seems to have a relatively high number of immigrants. Personally, it doesn't bother me if people want to immigrate to Canada.

As a geeky female, if I had any interest in dating, then I'd find your idea interesting. I'd be able to find someone with similar interests, or at least someone who will put up with mine. I'd have way more guys to choose from than any other dating site, because I'd have way less competition. Out of all the people on slashdot, there must be some guys who I would want to date. On the other hand, I'm a geek. I don't know anything about dating. I might change my mind if I actually tried it.

I think the main concern might be that there are some people who would make decisions based on this study. I mostly agree, though. It's not as if my intelligence (I'm female) suddenly drops when somebody comes up with a study like this. If it's true, complaining won't change it. Besides, we don't even know how scientific this study is yet anyway, and whether there's any accuracy in it.

Mostly, I like playing FPSs and strategy games. Generally I find the Sims and most RPGs boring. I tend to prefer single-player games to multi-player games (unless I'm playing with people I know, since it seems many gamers are, or act, about 8 years old). Basically, I'm the opposite of the typical female gamer portrayed in the article. (I like some puzzle games, though.) I've noticed that I'm treated quite differently when other (mostly male) gamers find out I'm female. I tend to either get hit on a lot, treated with a lot more respect than previously, or treated with a lot less respect than previously (since they assume (correctly in my case) that I'm not as good as them at the game.)

Most people from Iran I know don't consider censorship a part of their culture. It could be that the people who choose to immigrate to Canada are more likely to want more rights than others, but I suspect many people in Iran feel the same. I think the desire for free speech and access to information is pretty much constant everywhere. It seems in every country there are those who want to limit this, and those who don't. Just because censorship is winning does not mean it's a part of their culture, or that everybody wants that.
