The problem is that everyone has started thinking like damned lawyers...
They stop seeing the actual thing but see the distorted, vile way of looking at things.
I know Linux is not in the public domain has far as law is concerned, but damn it, it certainly
is for most of the world population so why would he have to pay for something he gave away!
No I think the general concept is great.. it would probably put an end to patent trolls..
and big megacorp would think twice before applying for patent only to apply for patents...
But it must be worked out so that it doesn`t hurt people who gives it without compensation.
GPL and uder licenses need to be protected under such law.. These shoudl fall under special
circumstances which would protect the world interests..
First I would like to remind everyone the topic, this is about a way for a kid to have a password, not an ethic discution about whether or not to allow it.
So my suggestion would be to go for something that is childish.. why not try a song.
Just as we use sentences to create password, you could work on a song that would remind her of the password.
I dont know.. something like: Mary had a little lamb it was white with green spots
Mhalliwwwgs
Its kinda easy to remember the song and make a password of respectful lenght.
Linux has acknowledge the existence of proprietary software, its just that prop. soft. doesn`t
do well with linux philosophy. I think they should have invested in the GIMP intead.
Its already a good product and its free. I have worked in a shop where photoshop was used and the
problem with photoshop is that its a great product with a great price tag.
Where I used to work we needed photoshop for like 0.05% of each project.. Thats a whole lot
of money to invest for such a short use. GIMP would have done the work if it could have opened
our big images (800MB each, around 2000 per project) as fast as photoshop... (photoshop ~5 sec
GIMP over 5 minutes...)
But GIMP is very powerful it just need some improvment in some aspect.
Men I would fire that guy right on the spot if I were U2.
This guy obviously doesn't know a thing about illegal download.
I mean, ok accuse Apple already its far fetched... but Google
and Oracle.. Oracle, how could they care less, how are they in
ANY way related to illegal downloading? Because BitTorrent trackers
runs they Database on Oracle. Wow this guy is just plain idiot.
With all that the child that will benefit from the OLPC just might kick our own kids ass in 50 years.
What if this project turn those country into super power country and with our kids
having more and more problem at school our country turn to emerging nation status!
I hope they will remember then, that we gave them all those tools!
GO OLPC!
That would teach us humility!
The absolute solution to this, easy
Put the computer in the living room or somewhere where he can't hide what the kids doing.
There's no way the teen can get around that.
Thats the most effective and costless solution.
Well just point them here and make them see for themselves that the computer/geek society now think
of their compagny, remind them that we are mostly sys admins and that we are the one that says yes/no
when it is time to buy computers. Show them all those nice comment and how the people really think
that they are idiots since they can't make a difference between hardware and software.
Say to them, sorry guys you've been/.ed!
Im tired of compagnies always trying to make profit over each little bit they can find.
For me its as stupid as if the government were to charges car compagnies for making
profit for selling car that travel through their road.
When will the revolution happen...
When will humanity stop running after money and start running for its self improvment
my two cent

Indeed Daniel Jackson! err... Lyons
These are supposed to be kids and teens... not grown up, they should be to bed at the same time as the parents.
