    It will be really funny to check back those "die real die" comments if MS finds a legal way to code wmedia 10 in a manner to make it impossible to play on Linux/BSD boxes.

    They just can't do that because they have a good performing (oh yes, 1.300.000+ paying members http://www.realnetworks.com/company/press/releases /2004/q403results.html ) competitor which they couldn't kill yet...

    Also, its said that EU will decide our geek loved wmedia is a monopoly practice by microsoft, just like IE... (Financial Times)

    Also God help the next IT company who will hire you, so when they somehow fire you you will post another comment like that leaking (if true) some company confidential info to such popular Slashdot.

    BTW, besides your somehow degratory "former soviet republic" statement, one of the best win32 Mail clients are made in Moldovia, its called "The Bat!" Yes, some guys try to make money by coding in such a shaky, one of the worst suffering "former soviet republic".

    Also on OSX, I bought "iGetter", http://www.igetter.net , made in Bulgaria, one of the best download managers on mac... Those (kind of) Ex USSR guys made the stuff which Apple itself can't.

    Now I wonder if real's decision to fire such people as you were good or bad? Real progressed to be a big, extremely compatible platform working even in CELL PHONES in 2 years.

    Surf at -1 to read people who actually likes your code.(Not a joke) Also thanks for still respecting Linux/BSD unlike microsoft and releasing players with same native features as Win32/OSX counterparts...

    Also thanks for coding OSX version samely compatible as Win32 version, e.g. scripting etc actually works, unlike wmedia.

    Tell your "walked away" friend he can be happy from now on, I am listening to Radiopass content all the time with Realone for mac in extremely unstable network conditions sometimes... Its the ONLY program here never crashed a single time on this G5 mac...

    Oh, IMHO, like Linux version, its what Realone should be, just playing its own files, no startup automatically, no default start page even...

    Just like Windows Media 9 here...

    Wondering if she was the reason why Realone for mac is buggy? ;)

    If you code the exact UI, widgets designed to work on such an advanced accelerated environment such as Quartz (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/quartz/) Extreme to a DirectDraw UI, it will sink.

    I moved to mac and checked the QT first. Let me say, "Apple, give up! Use Windows core widgets!"

    You could click "don't open homepage when started" at preferences... From now on, while installing a media player, click "custom install", YES, they are designed to do such things.

    Your windows media 9 is corrupt so that it doesn't open windowsmedia.com by default? And of course the popups?

    Oh come on...

    Embedded/Scripted Windows Media 9 works in Mac default browser Safari AS Microsoft says. Yes, if you believe its product page, it does... But it doesn't!

    Wondering if I and hundreds of Mac users are such stupid not to make it work. Hey! I even use a 3 button logitech mouse ;)

    Start from version tracker.com to all the way down to download.com .... Read user comments.

    My theory is, the sites admin is a Slashdot fan and as 90% fans, he/she hates Real networks. QT/Darwin combination wasn't used because of $30 QT Pro price? Oh come on!!

    While spending that much time to flame Realmedia, he/she could find a more apporiate codec for a TALK show. Wmedia 9, Real9/10 formats designed for music in mind.

    As a mac user, it won't effect me but I'll really laugh when ms bounds wmedia 9 to directsound or some other windows only api...

    Also, as a mac user, "hate real to be 133t" fashion on Slashdot amazes me. More amazing is, how opensource serving developers who produces the ONLY original, same features media program to Linux/BSD can ignore the Slashdot. I wouldn't code a single line for a community hates me so much. Would spend time on Mac/Win32 instead...

    Now -2 me or something...

    Its kinda amazing they gave up on that, they could even SELL it like Opera.

    A standalone IE, comforming to standards, just 1 file (hfs package) "Internet Explorer". Not trying to takeover system.

    It was really hard to stay that way Microsoft? I , as a new mac guy LOVED the Mac IE... If it was that way on Windows, maybe I (we) wouldn't hate it and most importmantly YOUR company.

    Same goes to Windows Media, Realone player too... They are doing their jobs, nothing else!

    BTW, don't get confused by numbers, e.g. ICQ is at v 3.4 now, having icq 2003 features and some more...

    Like, I'd call Mac IE 5.2.x as Win IE 7, download/auction managers etc... If the screenshots of IE 7 at betanews are real.

    I tried "Indiana Jones" game demo on my mac, I did something freaky which I don't remember, game crashed and I saw some "wine" entries on OS log.

    I am kind of newbie on mac, is there any explanation from oldtimers? Is that the same Wine? e.g. licensed version etc? Maybe its already done in house?

    I don't know if you make theory or not but I just reported 10 spams via Spamcop using Spamcop bundle for OS X mail.app http://www.subsume.com/assembled/SpamCop.html , which is free.
    for a week, 30% of spams mysteriously reported to Haiku, they have their own part in spamcop reporting. You know, after
    They were just like you said, sent over open proxies from lovely (!) broadband but unadministered ISPs from South Korea especially.
    That company either do what it claims to do, sue them really bad, whoever responsible or instead they are helping spammers by tricking companies saying "it will work". Their license agreement says "mail from whitelist IPs should be delivered".
    Oh about Spamcop partnering with them, without a single javascript window explanation what the hell Haiku is? Or defaultly selecting to report? Got used to it... Same kind of unpolite attitude to people who actually tries to help stopping spam, now Haiku too, last time (and still) a Langley, Virginia based company...

    No, speaking from 10.2.8 (lets say, 10.2 series) OSX which came with my mac g5 (I am newbie on mac), its default browser is Safari.

    Oh I still keep IE.. Wonder who wants it? Realone "plus" with subscription. Its somehow "secure" links (like exclusive radio etc) doesn't work anywhere except Mac IE. Its stated on release notes too... And they cry about MS dominance, heh...

    btw, coming from PC world just 3 months ago, Mac IE is what IE should be on Windows. Standards compliance, not taking over sytem, no preloaded dlls etc. Oh also its amazingly slow even on G5. I bet those are connected with eachother ;)

    Well, definately same think I thought with office use.

    The problem would be, if they try to get into tweaked inhouse development, try stupid FPS race with Nvidia and Ati and produce unstable but fast drivers.

    Than no pros install it to their servers. Imagine a 10.000 dollar server constantly crashing because of graphics driver ;)

    Perhelia was intended for 3d/medical/video professionals and DTP systems.
    They thought that FPS mania is over and tried to sell it to gamers too. Well, seems it didn't work very well.
    Matrox'es legacy comes from excellent colour balance, accuracy and rendering quality. Also it does those with freaky accelerated 2d graphics which even caches the window elements it displays.
    As for 3d, there is a utility from matrox you change driver parameters. If you run it on a newly installed Matrox card you'll see "Optimize 3d for (accuracy) (performance)" and by DEFAULT, accuracy is selected. It describes very well the cards originally intended audience.
    I recently bought/switched to Mac G5, if that wasn't the case, I was waiting for a sane Perhelia price to upgrade from my G550, which, I was definately happy with BUT never recommended it to Nvidia/Ati audience. I know what happens after that ;)
    Because of my previous job, I also know that those G400'es, which nobody would give shit now are used in $30.000 Barcovision setups.
    Matrox never been, never will be in FPS race if thats the case and its -really patient and helpful- support personnel ALWAYS say it in their forums.
