Not all women, certainly... but depending on the study you read, there's something like a 15-40% higher percentage of women than men who do. (I know, crazy gap in the numbers--I don't claim any percentage is spot on, but none of them claimed men washed more than women, so I guess that particular fact is safe to believe.)

I agree, but even here in the US there are plenty of idiots who know better but still get knocked up. Plenty of children being born to unfit parents, plenty of people who can't afford all the kids they've spawned because they can't keep their legs together. Education helps a little, but it's no magic cure-all for this one, unfortunately. People being forced to be personally responsible for their actions... maybe. But below a certain intelligence/awareness level, base urges override sensibility a majority of the time.

Guess it depends on the school. Parent is right, that's unconstitutional, it's akin to going through someone's wallet, bookshelf, safe, etc...

"I can't see him or see any hard evidence, so he must not exist" right? Or is that qualifier only used when it's convenient? ;)

Wouldn't information/technology like this be much more helpful if it was kept quiet? If enemies know what to look for, it makes it harder to go undetected... Before news like this broke, nobody would pay any attention to a bird fluttering around, but now people are going to be armed with bird hunting rifles all around sensitive areas. Ha.

As a sidenote, this is a general beef I have with things like this, not just the perching (but unmanned, who'da thought?) surveillance aircraft. I'm torn between my geeky desire to know about these things, and the thought that it'd probably be much more effective if it was kept under wraps.

  15. Re:Just a thought on The Myth of the Mathematics Gender Gap · · Score: 1

See, I'm a female and I agree with this. I think one of the biggest problems we have today is that for a lot of reasons (two big ones being the high divorce/single parent rate and the economy/general cost of living), it's become more of a luxury for one parent to be able to stay home. Most people can't afford to, so nobody is there to provide a stable environment for the kids, and they lose the structure that seems to be very necessary for development. Then folks wonder why children have so many health and behavioral problems. (Obviously some people can pull off both, but I'd put that number in a very small minority. And you still cannot give either job the undivided attention it deserves if you are doing both.)

Maybe some women will call ME inferior, but I can't take on the responsibility of having children. I don't really desire to, but even if I did, I know I couldn't stay home with them. And I wouldn't let that desire override what I know would be best for a child. I can't dedicate myself to the extent I know they would need, so I choose not to--anything less would be selfish.

    Okay, you lost me at:

they are allowed to charge you at their discretion

When selling most goods and services, it's "here is our price per [measurement], take it or leave it". They do not look into why you are buying the item, and what you are using it for, and charge you based on that. And you are informed of the rate before you decide to purchase the goods or service.

For some reason I'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words just now, but when they're deciding what to charge me for bandwidth based on what they think about my use of it... I don't think so.
