Chicago has an underground network of freight tunnels (below the loop and even the subways) that have been turned basically into a bunch of paths for conduits... There are some pics of people going into the tunnels here and you can see the conduits above them as they walk around.
You are still ignoring the fact that concrete cracks, especially in areas where there is rapid temp changes. Even if it is super-duper-strong concrete, it is still going to crack.
And once it cracks the cracks get bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and BIGGER. Until the entire structure is FUBAR and you have to build a brand new one.
And all the while I have a nice home, that I can expand all I want, with a reasonable amount of assurance that the odds of my home getting hit by a tornado are pretty damn small.
Uhh, we should also remember that there are some people at these places that make legitimate edits to Wikipedia. Just because an IP changes one or two things controversial, doesn't mean that all of their edits are BS. Also it is reason for someone to watch that users edits in the future to check for NPOV
I was searching for some information about a mail-receiving place near my new apartment (as I don't believe the apartment I am in will sign for packages and I need someplace to drop off eBay shipments) and I found the name of some place but no more information. I did all the searches I could find and got no information. Had to wait until they were open for business before I could find out any useful information (and even then, it turns out they open at 10:00AM instead of 9 so they stay open later... so I called at 9:30 and got voice mail)
I *REALLY* wish this information was on Google Maps, and as a student I wouldn't mind canvasing the neighborhood with a clipboard and a digital camera one afternoon... Could probably do it all in under 15 minutes a store once I have my pitch right...
For a time every single plane in the sky will have to have the ability to use both systems at once... and each air traffic control tower will have to be able to control both systems at once... and then you need to train the pilots and air traffic controllers to use the damn thing (you may think it is easy, but I don't feel like "on the job training" is too great of an idea at 50k feet)
Then you need to have a system that can interface with the hundreds of different models of planes...
And it needs to have 99.999% uptime (with a few more 9s in for good measure)
And don't forget, you are going to need to have some agency with some big staff to organize this entire thing... and that office is going to need a secretary, and a few lawyers, etc, etc, etc... (even if you think it is a waste, there needs to be some people SOMEWHERE handling all of this, and they are going to need a copier, some toner, and perhaps a/. member to keep the lights on)
The editors of Slashdot are only doing their duty as citizens, following a precedent set over 230 years ago by guys named "Paine", "Franklin", "Jefferson".
What version of RSS did Jefferson use again? I know Franklin was much more into ATOM.
There is a market for gold, people are getting paid for it. Not every single GP is from chinese farmers and anyone who claims that it "ruins the game" has no idea what they are talking about. The latest enhancements have made it so that you have to do actual work on your character to get the best gear (actually fight other players) which gold can not buy you.
IGE has hired former Blizz execs. And this whole "class action lawsuit" against IGE is a load of BS. Gold selling/farming hurts nobody. If you don't like the idea of knowing that the chinese have jobs that actually pay decent considering what the cost of living and average wage is around the area of the farm, then don't buy gold. Even though a majority of WoW players do (even many of the die-hard ones) just to pay for their stupid mounts.
Farming doesn't involve completing quests though... it is 100% grinding... then when you get a blue/purple item you auction it off, vendor the rest, and if you get a green you use your enchanter character to disenchant it into materials to sell at the auction house...
Right now the prices that are getting paid to suppliers are about $30-40(on a good day) for 1000g so it is more like $3. Sometimes it spikes higher. The real money comes from european gamers, where gold costs a lot more.
Of course, sales to gamers of 1000g would run about $84... so that shows you where the real money is going I guess.... (but the seller's expenses are HUGE)
Or you could just run a ton of bots. Level 60 characters sold wholesale go for $100 now and you can bot it up in the free month you get with the $20 ($17 at sams club) game
I've personally found quite a few songs on Youtube that I really liked and went and bought them on iTunes for $0.99 .
What a lot of people don't realize is that the quality on these videos suck, and there is currently no "easy" way to rip the audio off of these things. YouTube is in Mono for christ's sake! Even the "Higher Quality" video sites like Revver don't have all that great audio. So I don't see this cutting into the music industry's bottom line. Hell, if the users started saying what music they used in their videos it could sell a ton of music, especially from smaller bands.
My point is this. You could upload the entire Kelly Clarkson CD into individual Youtube videos with just a blank picture of Kelly Clarkson and I seriously doubt it would hurt sales (those videos don't get a ton of views anyways unless it is an unreleased/leaked copy... which if that happened would also probably sell a ton of records)
If you think this will reduce the prices of DVDs, you are crazy... this is to increase the margins of big box retailers, not to become more competitive.
I can't agree more! And the creator of Facebook has said multiple times that they are not going to allow custom CSS on profiles or crazy stuff like that. They have also gone a long way with privacy settings (after much outrage in the facebook community)
As a college student, I love Facebook. I use it to keep up with high school friends, keep in contact with people from the school I transfered from, know the people in my classes so I can throw questions at them if I have one, and since I am bad with names it is a great tool to remember people by!

I was thinking exactly this...

After Bittorrent yesterday is this a trend that we should be worried about, or really just 2 separate instances?
Do they even let you do that anymore?
People think that this is SOOO easy to do...

Isn't this why we created the PS3?
All they needed to do was connect to Internet2 and replace the ads on MySpace with their own and they would have been set...

Why do people not get this:
Who the hell cares?

Mats for high-level enchants and blue/purp high level items on the AH

There was no lawsuit filed... It was a C&D only.
I wonder if Earthlink subscribers on the Time Warner network will be impacted...
Ever try the Gimp Print Drivers?
Finally I can realize my dream of playing 500 instances of Quake 3 on one machine!

Why is the dinosaur eating a golf ball?
There is a reason they are still releasing patches for Starcraft 1: no RTS game, period, can be balanced perfectly.
When I look at that developer preview I can't stop thinking: This game is going to take forever to balance right.
If you think this will reduce the prices of DVDs, you are crazy... this is to increase the margins of big box retailers, not to become more competitive.
I couldn't agree more. I use FF exclusively on both my Windows and Mac comps. The amount of times FF on Mac crashes is simply unacceptable.

The information I have on Facebook you could probably find elsewhere. But having such a clean interface is great. and their improvements are going to be great (membership required)
