I second what the anonymous guy said. I have tried to use the computer to help educate myself. ie getting help on physics problems, looking at code examples, using online dictionaries for help with foreign languages, whatever it may be. You know what was the best technique as a college student? Opening up a BOOK, starting at page 1 and finishing where it says "The End."
Computers are unnecessary in 99% of jobs. Just today I was reading that the head of our local paper still uses a 1930s typewriter. (pop=80,000+)
Computer skills are useless. Teaching advanced techniques in agriculture will help far greater than any laptop.
How can you associate the ability to speak English and a better education with computers? Do you think that people didn't learn anything fifty years ago?
How is being productive with a spreadsheet productive? I fail to see the correlation.
Why do these countries need a widespread distribution of $100 computers? Have people forgotten that the computer is not necessary? I'll go out on a limb to say that computers have done 3 notable things over the years: 1) increase the powers of various militaries to create weapons which kill better, 2) make the wallets of porn mongers fatter and 3) help those of us with sloppy handwriting get A's on various projects/presentations.
I work with computers part-time (php/mysql and the like). My job is worthless. So is yours, but it puts bread on the table, alright? For some of the people that these $100/sub-$100 laptop/desktop/playskool looking devices are directed towards, there is no bread. There is no medicine, there is no fill-in-the-blank.
I think this could be huge for graphical interfaces. Everyone seems to be focusing on games just because the blurb mentioned Quake3, but what about Quartz3D on a handheld device. Hmmm? Handhelds would be great to fill with eye-candy. Touch screens with ripple effects, major WOW factor there.
I don't think so. You'd better slip a giant condom over your whole computer one way or the other. Sticking it in (to the wall) is going to put you at risk of infection either way. Only complete abstinance will work 100% of the time. Jusk ask ol' bushy.
this thing is great. it has everything i need and it's not excessively flashy.
screen is stunningly beautiful, dvd is crisp and clean. firewire for movies...no more legacy ports!! 3d is acceptable...quake3, tribes2, unreal tournament, thps2 all wonderful!
1500 for dvd, 10gb, 128mb, a glowing apple on the back of the display.
in a review, the reviewers said they threw it accross a gymnasium and it still worked...in addition to throwing baseballs at it!

i'll probably get moderated down, but if you can reply back and tell me how the pay is for Computer Engineering vs. Comp. Sci. then please tell me!!
I'm planning on doing comp. eng. at University of Kansas and a co-major in Japanese. will japanese even help much in computer engineering? will that give me a raise??
I would definitely ask for the entire series of the greatest japanimation ever, Ping Pong Club. For those of you that haven't seen this, it's like Southpark meets Japan.
As i've seen on discovery channel, giant squids exist...but they've only been caught in fishing nets in a deceased state. If only there could be a surrogate for such a beast....
this is great news! i've been using Corel Draw since v3...i've always liked it because i does what i want it to when i want it to. maybe other companies will follow this trend;) then again... well...time to try to find a mirror.

Last time I checked, we're all going to die. Some of us view life a bit different, that's all.
