This has never worked and never will. (Unless the universe decides that it does not want to obey the second law of thermodynamics).
I have been reading / hearing about schemes such as these from since 1989 at least, all claiming to have either achieved or being on the verge of achieving success.
When in college I had used a Carnot engine to prove why it can't be done and if I am not mistaken the Carnot engine has not changed very much since then.
I thought 9/11 occurred because bin Laden did not like the presence of US soldiers in Saudi Arabia who were stationed there at the request of the Saudi government to protect Saudi Arabia from Saddam. At least that's been the official al-Qaeda line.
And please remind me who is oppressing whom in the Middle East or other muslim countries such as Sudan, Somalia, Indonesia etc.? Is it America? Or UK?
As for the nuclear bomb, I was watching a documentary the other day and one of the veterans of the war said that the use of the nuclear weapons saved hundreds of thousands of lives. The argument was that since the Japanese considered it a dishonour of the highest degree to surrender they would continue fighting till the last man was killed. And the allies would have no option but to keep fighting them.
Bush may not be the brightest bulb around but he has sure got this one right.
Nope, not a chance. The publicity would just legitimize astrology. When the suit was finally decided in NASA's favor, believers would just spin it that NASA had better lawyers.
And obviously, the fact that the astrologers couldn't predict that they would lose doesn't count against astrology or the astrologers themselves.
Except for a brief spurt in the value of the dollar between June 2000 and October 2000, when it almost touched 54 INR the dollar has traded between 44INR and 49INR. Even now it is around 43INR.
And you forget that inflation in India is rising at a much higher rate than in the US. So Americans are still not cheaper to employ.
Also you forget that there are other considerations apart from the salaries paid to programmers such as rent, utility bills and salaries for support staff.
While janitors and supermarket shelf stockers in America keep earning more and having a better lifestyle than fully qualified engineers in other parts of the world, American employees will always be more expensive to employ.
Would you also know that a highly qualified and employed engineer in India might envy the living standards of a cleaner / grocery clerk in the developed world?
You don't? Let me assure you that it is indeed so.
So the problem you see is that Americans are pricing themselves out of the competition.
No. I paid for it I want to see it. How else will we know if it works the way they say it works?
Apart from that, if I have paid for it, it belongs to me. Why should somebody else have ownership rights over it and any subsequent profits/income deriving from it? Seems like robbery to me.
Shouldn't that be 'A Dog in Every Pot...'?

+5 Insightful should be good
And how is that? Last I heard MS was losing money on Hotmail. Seems like a good way to get rid of a loss making business if you ask me.

I agree totally. However, I would like to remind people that the war on terror possibly prevented many more such incidents.
In fact, as far as the chicks are concerned, you will lose whatever charm you had to begin with.

I have seen a Dr. Cholera in Mumbai

It's the 1st of April. I read the article and it had the characteristic April Fool feel to it. Guess not too many bright sparks on /. these days.
If they can catch the dupes, mispellings, and other obvious errors, I'm all for outsourcing slashdot.
That should have been 'misspellings'. And also it would do you good to read the slashdot FAQ, especially the section that deals with spelling errors.

I don't know about how it works nowadays. But when I was new to UNIX, I would write the following program:
int main() {
while(1)
fork() ;
return 0 ;
}
Compiling and running it would hang the box. You could ping the system, but nothing else would would work.
Ultimately, I would have to switch the box off and on again. And I remember thinking that this was a bug.
A user should be allowed to do whatever he/she wants. But if the system becomes unusable, surely it is a bug.
That is no reason why the same should be true of Linux. Or any other OS for that matter.
Just Yesterday I had my first story submitted. And today I get the first post. Wow! Or do I?
