it was pretty easy to do with the old 5110 and afair some of the 6110. You just had to send a SMS Message filled with dots to the phone you wanted to crash. Scary, isn't it.
this could be nice in the cinema. Some people hear the killer approaching from while the others get really shocked when he rams the knife into the back of the girl taking a shower:-)
so you really want to compare Snow Crash to Illuminati? Snow Crash is a cyberpunk book (what a misuser term...) if you didn't notice yet.
and btw take a look around and you'll notice that I'm not the only one who LIKES Illuminati
What happened to SCO? The free software they released recently sucked badly (there are better tools under the GPL out there). SCO Unix seems to be dead. etc.
I fully agree that we need convergence between all types of devices. But what's even more important than this, are standards. We really NEED them. Imagine a world in which all those nice devices cann talk to each other etc. but no Sony PDA will be able to connect to a eg a Palm.
As I've allready used one of this nice little devices, I can tell you, that they use text recognition (real recognition, non-graffiti) and onscreen-keyboards. The PR-text I've read says that it should be able to perform "voice recognition" as well, but that feature didn't work when I tried out the Yopy (February).
RMS allways talks about the printer they used to have at (afair) the AI lab. He couldn't write a driver for it, because the company didn't give away the source to the old one. If he had the sources of the old driver, he would have known how the device worked and he could write a new driver himself (from scratch, just with the information how the printer work).
A huge number of the people who joined the ICANN are US Americans. Ok, that's obvious. The next country on the list is Germany with > 4000 people who joined. All the other countries are just minorities who won't be able to change anything through their right to vote... *ponder
Tanenbaum has written another fine book on Operating Systems ~ 3 years ago. It is called "Operating systems; Design and implementation" and is focused (as you could guess from the name) on the implemenation of an OS. If you are interested in Linux, the book "Linux Kernel Internals" published by Addison Wesley might be a good point to start with.
Paying for it isn't the problem. I just don't want closed source drivers in my system! Just think about what a driver could do to your system (---> MS Winblows Blue Screens)!
If it works, it's a really cool thing. Just imagine: there would be no more reasons to use Winblows. Every Vendor could compile his drivers with this tool. But on the other side: 1.) Drivers made by this tools will be rather big (not to say huge) and slow (slow as a snail...). 2.) The tool isn't Open Source and the drivers won't be, too. 3.) It's hard to believe that this works for ALL kind of drivers.
I don't want to start arguing about religion, because/. ain't the right place for it. But it's the same with nearly all Christians out there: You say that the games teach your kids bad things and no "real values". Why don't you teach your kids that these RPGs are only games and that there's a difference between a game and the real life. It's your job as a parent to do this. Not Ultima's nor any other game's.
But who needs a gaming APIs? I don't want a full-blown API. I can use GLUT for Input, do my network stuff with bsdsockets and use another API for sound ... and my code will be faster than any program written using this fat bitch (--> DirectX)...
I've been using DirectX and... it's crap. You can do 1000% better programs (from a programmer's point of view) by building your gfx engine with opengl.
They should watch the portability of their games from the beginning of their development on. Ok, when they started work on U9 Linux wasn't that popular as it is in our days.

nah, as we're talking about tech/Computers here I wouldn't

I guess they won't go open source :*)?
I am just wondering why the attendance to the Linux Congress decreases while there were thousands of people attending this year's Linux Tag ...
As long as it's really GPL and not LGPL it should make the game free :*)

I have to try to get .sex. Imagin how much money you could gain by selling .sex domains to the porn industry *g.
So you really think that I am a bad person just because I`m playing Quake III? You are really ill ... sorry

You are kidding, aren't you?
ok, ok. Sorry. I'm just angry that there's no Ultima (expect UO) for Linux, but I really like Ultima, too.

So you say that OpenGL isn't modern???
