To my mind, they will be compulsory because there is a sizeable majority of people who have passports and therefore will be obliged to join this 'Big Brother' scheme. This now makes it more difficult for those such as myself that can't wait to emigrate and leave this country that now truly deserves the name 'rip-off Britain'!

This kind of thing has been discussed before but it seems that 'packs' such as you mension aren't coming any time soon because of the performance hit that you inevitably take from having so many extensions installed. Besides, the whole point of extensions is complete customisability and the freedom to mix and match extensions to your heart's content and exactly to your wishes.

No, I don't think you are alone. In fact many people were concerned at the time when Ben Goodger was landing the patch that changed the options window that Firefox was becoming too bloated.

Inevitably, with the all-encompassing userbase of Firefox, discipline is needed by the lead developers especially in ensuring that Firefox sticks to its roots and does not make the mistake of adding unnecessary features that can quite easily be added by extensions. Admittedly, some new features such as the automatic updater that will be with us by Firefox 1.1 are very useful while at the same time being 'cool'. This will make it easier for dialup users to receive hte latest patches and have them installed without having to go through the hassle of downloading the entire program again.

The Mozilla Suite, to its cost, did become too feature-full and as such was too much of an 'all things to all men' piece of software, never really gaining that much widespread popularity. There is real opportunity with Firefox but we ultimately must not alienate its main fans!

I personally do not feel particularly comfortable if I go to bed at night knowing I've done nothing worthwhile during the day!

Homework and private study is a necessary discipline, I think that gives you independence and ultimately prepares you for the real world. Of course everybody is different, but I learn best where I am finding things out for myself, trying new things and methods and figuring out what works and what doesn't by myself. It's all very well sitting in a classroom all day but when it comes to exams and/or the real world and you are unable to live up to expectations placed upon you, you'll be kicking yourself for not bothering to do the homework.

I have to admit, I do now find Ubuntu to be a better bet for the average desktop Linux user these days as you get most of the benefits of the Debian core, adapted to a desktop environment and very user friendly.

You also have a guaranteed release cycle of every 6 months with regular synchronisations with Debian builds as well!

BBC News said: The forecasts show land in different shades of brown, depending on the outlook, with rain appearing as splodges of blue.

Mr Lane said: "Although there have been some comments about the colour of the map, it is a key part of the new system and helps us to show detailed weather conditions to be shown over it."

As far as I know, the BBC have just decided to use this murky brown colour because they feel like it and, as has become the norm with the organisation, have decided to ignore public opinion and carry on as they please. They seem to forget that they are a public corporation and it is the British public that ultimately keeps them ticking over!
