  1. Sony isn't averse to litigation on Visually Impaired Gamer Sues Sony · · Score: 1

I bet the people Sony sues for $150,000 per infringed $0.99 song are happy... Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Mod parent up. Games are a reasonable next step from websites. If target.com has to be accessible, so should EQ2. It sounds like they could open their games up to third party addons like wow and instantly create goodwill.

If I were the plaintiff I'd just sue both of them. They all have culpability under the proposed law. It's like the driver who sues both the guy that hit him and the government because they made a screwy road.

The GPL is the contract or else it'd have no weight. Just because you're not giving money for it doesn't mean the owner isn't getting something (even if it's just good will appurtenant thereto, etc)

  6. Disabling wireless on hybrid routers on UK Schools Bans WiFi Due To Health Concerns · · Score: 1

I have a d-link with wireless and wired functionality and I just read this tutorial http://www.cruzio.com/support/docs/router_dlink524 .html#general about disabling the wireless part for d-links. You basically click disable on "wireless radio" and in addition to that I disabled SSID broadcast. I'd like to confirm this will actually stop these potentially problematic microwave "emissions" or whatever they are? I'm not being paranoid, I just don't use it and thought it'd be good to disable it anyway.

IANAL, but freedom of speech does not apply to speech that incites violence, and if it can be proven that the number did just that, their would be no problem charging "Osama." However, theirs nothing about freedom of speech that excludes numbers that transform into audio people might enjoy. I think it's a good argument but public policy and the ignorance of the potential jurors would probably say otherwise.

  14. Why Nielsen is Bad for TV on Google to Compete with Nielsen? · · Score: 1

I wish Google would decide to compete with Nielsen's main business, which is recording what people watch on TV. For the few that don't know (it's at least common knowledge where I live) theirs only about 5,000 people with "Nielsen Boxes" which is hardly a good measurement of the entire country. This is why such good shows get canceled or end early.

IANAL but the GPL is a contract, you are given the priviledge of the code if you are willing to accept all of the provisions in the GPL. If you violate one of the provisions the contract becomes void, and it is that contract that gives you the right to use the code, so that is also void. This means by keeping the code you are stealing.

  19. Advertising and DotComs on The DotCom Crash Revisited · · Score: 1

One of the main problems with the earlier DotComs is all they had was potential which was never actualized. For example, if a blog serves up advertising and gets a lot of revenue in PPC the advertisers might not get a good return on their investment and if that happens to much no one will want to advertise on blogs again. However, something like affiliate accounts where you get paid a commission for each sale offer much more stability to the advertiser. As for real estate, it might go down but it's pretty much guarenteed to go up as people need a place to live (and with more people coming / no new land being made...)
